Windows 8 freezes alot...

Question

So randomly my computer has now started freezing alot... I have noticed the task manager says 100% disk utilization when this happens... but if I add up all the numbers it might be like only 500kb being written accounting to task manager... I been goggling but its sooo much to go through and I can't seem to find an answer to what this could be. I have 8gb ram and an I7 I should not randomly run like mud... Anyone have an ideas?

Could be a software or hardware problem without any further digging.

Type "msconfig" on the start screen and press enter. In the first tab, select diagnostic startup, restart and see if the same behaviour occurs.

If it doesn't, go back into msconfig and then to the startup tab (it'll tell you to open task manager via a hyperlink), enable startup items one by one, restarting in between each to see if one of those programs is causing the problem.

If it does, make sure all of your drivers are up to date (chipset, network, SSD firmware, audio, graphics).

If it's still happening after that, download some HDD / SSD diagnostic tool from the manufacturer of your SSD/HDD.

I've also seen this happen with people who use AVG anti-virus.
