Title: The Last of Us
Developer: Naughty Dog
Publisher: SCEA
Platform: Playstation 3
Release Date: June 14th, 2013 (worldwide release)

Trophy List

The Last Of Us is a third-person survival action game by Naughty Dog, creators of Jak & Daxter and Uncharted. It takes place 20 years after a cordyceps-like fungus has jumped to the human population, causing a massive outbreak. Nature has taken back the cities and towns, with the population left living in quarantine zones under martial law. We play as Joel, who must accompany AI-controlled Ellie out of their quarantine zone and away from the military to a resistance group called the Fireflies.

Much like the comic and television show The Walking Dead, the outbreak merely provides a backdrop for a different story, a father-daughter story influenced by the relationship between Nathan Drake and his mentor Sully in Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.

The game is focused on single-player, but a yet-to-be-revealed multiplayer exists as well. The game also features NG+. A season pass for DLC is also being offered for $19.99. Purchasing the digital version will allow the player to start the game and play once it is 50% downloaded.

A four-issue comic from Dark Horse Comics is being released alongside the game, called The Last Of Us: American Dreams. The first issue sold out and has been re-printed for release May 29th, alongside the second issue.

Looks kinda cool, look forward to some reviews.

My only potential issues would be

1) Kid seems like she might be pretty annoying/pain in the arse

2) The dark scenes looked fun but on the same token how hard/scary is it to get around if these things can't detect you waving a flash light at them :p

I know very little about it aside from one of the first trailers they showed, but I'm excited for this.

Osiris, I agree with the bit about Ellie possibly being annoying. It all depends on how the AI handles her really, and whether she requires being babysat at every encounter and puzzle or not. AI companions need to be done really well, otherwise they just drag the game down (there was a game who's name escapes me where the AI destroyed any chance of getting a good review...Anna? Some other girl's name?).

I'm so looking forward to this game. Yet another birthday present to myself. (along with Man of Steel!)

This game is also another big event for me as it will be the first PS3 game I'll actually try to get every trophy. Since I won't be getting an Xbox next generation, I'm going to start investing my time in the PSN and build up my trophy list. I can't wait.

@Osiris: I don't think you need to worry about Ellie. The writing I have heard so far in various videos is top notch. Ellie's dialog has been a mix of childish wonder/ignorance and adult skepticism/swearing/desperation. I think she is going to be an amazing character. Though, I do hope her AI isn't dumb as a brick. But I have faith in Naughty Dog.

im going to reserve complete judgement until i see reviews. until then, i'll say that i used to be more excited about this game until i found out it was yet another zombie apocalypse game.

crawling through dark corridors with a flash light and a child. fun.

2) The "clickers" are like bats -- they're blind, but if you make noise they'll detect and rush you.

I stopped playing the demo about 15 minutes in as I decided I just want to experience everything as it is meant to be wholly experienced.

So yeah, loved (what I played obviously) of the demo. And I pretty much stopped right when the action started.

Still debating whether or not to try the demo as I've been trying to avoid anything that might spoil the experience for me so i can go in fresh. So far I've heard nothing but amazing things about the demo so that alone seems to be enough for me to hold off since I'm picking this up day 1 regardless.

I highly suggest not playing it, as I really wish I did not. It did not necessarily ruin anything for me, but this is no doubt a game that is best to experience it as a whole with as little knowledge of what to expect as possible.

Edge Magazine (UK) gave it 10/10, they've only given out 15 or so perfect scores in the 20 years since it launched. Two other publications have given it 10/10 and 5/5, the review embargo is up tomorrow.

If this is what Naughtydog can do with this generation I can't wait to see what they do with the next one.

Sessler's review is actually pretty good (not the score, just the way he reviews it).

He really does have the best reviews in the business. He truly appreciates the art of video games. And he is really damn eloquent. Perhaps to much so. I could see a decent amount of people thinking he is to pretentious because he likes to use big words.

Just curious, what would you guys do???

My work starts summer hours next week. Work an extra hour 8 days over two weeks, get every other Friday off.

I am actually on Schedule B, which means my Friday off is not until the 24th, but I am pretty sure my boss will let me switch and tak off the 17th, which I plan on doing so I can start playing The Last of Us.

Well my issue is I currently have the game pre-ordered from Amazon. it comes with a free digital soundtrack, free dynamic theme, 2 free avatars, and a $10 credit on Amazon's video store, which I definitely use from time to time.

I also am a prime member, so I get free release day delivery.

Now here is the deal. Amazon deliveries wind up at my house anywhere between 12 noon and 5 PM. It is usually closer to 12 then 5, however who knows since it is a Friday. They also have messed up release day delivery a few times over the years when I have preordered from them. 3 times in fact. So I will definitely not be able to play the game when I wake up, which will be early since I am used to waking up at 6:30 for work everyday. And there is a small chance they may mess it up.

IF I preorder it on the PSN, I lose all those preorder bonuses. Honestly the only way I really care about is the $10 credit. That is a nice incentive.

I am leaning towards screw the $10 credit and preorder it off the PSN. What do you guys think? What would you do?

1) your dates are messed up. Friday next week is the 14th.

2) Do you plan on playing the multiplayer much? If not, then it depends on 2 things: do you really care about the $10 credit (I wouldn't, but I don't use amazon's video delivery anyway, so that's just a personal thing). I'd probably opt for flipping it to the PSN version, since I rarely sell games either. If you might trade it in down the line, sit wait, go outside or something. The game will still be there to play Saturday or Sunday.

3) If you think you might get down for some multiplayer, flip your preorder to Gamestop -- they get an extra pre-order bonus for multiplayer.

I was still looking at May's calendar LOL

Damn, you bring up a very good point, that I did not think about in my haste of really wanting to play it (if I take the day off, ideally it would be to play this game, BUT I do trade in games whenever I can. If I do the digital version, obviously that is not an option.

    • Not sure there is good value here.... the only real choice is 2GB w/ Controller since 1. 512GB would disappear fast based on today's PC game installs 2. Controller is back ordered until 2027. The appeal of playing PC games on TV (along with PS5) sounds interesting, but I am not too lazy to fire up the huge PC either. Not really sure this would be "worth" it.
    • This might work, but the boot menu F12 only shows hdd and dvd+/- and Niks In the bios all usb are enabled. the usb stick is in place and in the boot menu it does not show up in the bios boot order.
    • Because we were never offered a UFC game to review it in the past. Sometimes it's not a conspiracy, the reviewer does not even live in the U.S. and didn't ask for it.
    • Apple releases iOS 27 Beta 2 for developers and power users by Aditya Tiwari It's been a couple of weeks since Apple previewed the iOS 27 update during the WWDC official keynote. The upcoming iOS version will bring even more refinements to the Liquid Glass design language, an upgraded Siri AI assistant, and several new Apple Intelligence features. Interestingly, the latest WWDC keynote was different than previous years. Apple has released the iOS 27 beta 2 (build 24A5370h) for developers who want to test the new features being baked for the iPhone and optimize their apps. If you're interested in downloading the latest beta, go to Settings > General > Software Update > beta Updates, then choose iOS 27 Developer Beta. You can download the latest iOS 27 beta on more than 30 supported iPhones. Make sure you know what you are doing since developer betas can be unstable and unexpected at times. If you want to be on the safer side, you can wait for the public beta, which will arrive next month. It's been a while since Apple discontinued its AirPort router lineup. Now, the company said in the iOS 27 beta 2 release notes that the AirPort Utility is deprecated and won't be available for new downloads from the App Store. Apple added that if you previously downloaded the app, you can re-download it. However, the functionality isn't guaranteed when using the AirPort Utility on iOS 27 or later. Speaking of known issues, Apple said that the Portrait mode blur effect might render incorrectly for photos; you may be unable to stop an alarm from the lock screen without unlocking your iPhone; the "Add a Control" button in Control Center edit mode might appear small or clipped. There are several new features in iOS 27 beta 2 as well. It comes with Neural Engine improvements for Apple Intelligence, including better performance when loading large models over 1GB. HomeKit Secure Video recordings are processed on-device and through Private Cloud Compute for video descriptions and search, when Apple Intelligence is enabled in the Home app. That said, you can also download the second betas of macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and other Apple operating systems.
