Thanks to the guys over at Latino-Review, we now know that Grant Gustin is one of the top three actors that the CW are considering for the role of Barry Allen/The Flash in Arrow. It's apparently now down to him and (as we heard earlier today) Parkland's Matt Barr and little-known James Mackay. Gustin is 23 years old and is best known for starring in 90210 and Glee, although Barr is arguably the most suitable choice for the character so far mentioned. He also has the right sort of physique that the network so prominently feature on their promos...what do you guys think?

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that it will be Grant Gustin who brings Barry Allen to life in the second season of Arrow and a potential spin-off of his own. "I?m unbelievably excited," the Glee actor told the site. "I?ve been a lifelong fan of DC Comics, so I can?t be more honored and can?t wait to get started." The plan for the character to appear in three episode of Arrow remains the same, with his final appearance planned as a back door pilot of his own series. However, how exactly will the grounded CW series deal with the introduction of the super speedster? "Part of the fun for the audience is to see how we view our Arrow take on the Flash legacy," Andrew Kreisberg said. "Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we're approaching Barry. There will be extraordinary events in the world and the characters will react in the same way" Barry Allen is described as being a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who comes to Starling City to look into a series of unexplained robberies which he believes may be connected to his tragic past. As a comic book fanboy, Allen is apparently obsessed with Arrow and ends up working with Oliver and Felicity before crossing paths with the vigilante.

Arrow co-creator Andrew Kreisberg has revealed what fans can expect from the show's version of the Black Canary.

The DC Comics heroine will feature in the TV drama's second season, portrayed by Mad Men actress Caity Lotz.

"She's a new player in town," Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. "A vigilante who avenges wronged women.

"[she] seems to have a fixation on the Arrow (Stephen Amell) and our team is trying to figure out why."

The original version of Black Canary - created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino - made her comics debut in August 1947 in Flash Comics #86.

Arrow will also introduce costumed superhero The Flash in its new season, with Glee star Grant Gustin playing the Scarlet Speedster.

The series returns to The CW on October 9, with Sky1 airing season two in the UK at a later date.

Copycat superheroes? Say it ain't so!

http://www.croatiantimes.com/news/Around_the_World/2013-05-08/33319/Cops_Hunt_Explosive_Arrow_Firing_Superhero_Copycat

German police are hunting a bowman who has been impersonating Marvel action hero Hawkeye by creating explosive arrows that in at least one case caused a massive fire that needed more than a dozen firemen to extinguish.

A police spokesman said: "Arrows are not toys, and especially arrows that have been rigged up to explode are something that we treat very seriously."

Dylan Neal To Play 'Amazo' Creator 'Dr. Anthony Ivo' In Season Two Of ARROW

Screen Crush have revealed that the latest DC comic book character to be brought to life on the small screen in Arrow will be 'Dr. Anthony Ivo'. Dylan Neal (whose credits include Cedar Cove, Human Target and Smallville) has been chosen to play him. However, in his first appearance - the fifth episode which is entitled "League of Assassins" - he will appear in Oliver's island flashbacks rather than Starling City. As this is set to be a four episode arc though, it's certainly likely that we'll see him return to make Ollie's life difficult further down the line as the site mentions that the door is open for recurring appearances. They describe Arrow's take on the villain as, " a brutal but ruthless scientist who will stop at nothing to unearth a breakthrough that dates back to the latter days of World War II." Ivo is also the creator of the android 'Amazo'.

As speculated at this summer?s San Diego Comic-Con ? given the talent RSVP list for the sophomore superhero drama?s panel discussion ? John Barrowman is set to reprise his role as Malcolm Merlyn aka The Dark Archer sometime during Season 2, TVLine can confirm.

A spokesperson for The CW would not say in what form Malcolm, who in the finale was last seen having an arrow thrust through his chest by The Hood, will resurface ? in a dream (OK, nightmare) sequence, flashback, as a ?ghost? or in the big, bad flesh ? but TVLine hears the character will appear in at least two episodes.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
