What kind of innovations were people expecting, anyway? This topic if pure flamebait...and isn't posted in the right area. It's like it was deliberately posted out here where plenty of people would see it so the likelihood of an argument would break out. I thought the mods were going to start handing out warnings and temp bannings from GH for this kind of stuff.

The problem is that the mods have done nothing about it for so long lots of people are going over the top including me, if they ban one person they would have to ban a dozen more making this place dead.

Your right that OP "forgot" the PS4 features. The PS4 has some great features, but...

The Xbox One has the ability to play games in the progress of being downloaded?

"With Xbox One, you can start playing immediately as games install." They just say install, so I'm not sure if that's only disc-based install or digital. I would be suprised if it wasn't both.

The ability to stream video games to a Tablet or in Sony's case the Vita?

That's powered by Gaikai-software isn't it? They're just using the owners PS4 as a "gaikai-server" for the remote player/vita. So he kinda got you there by saying "apart from Gaikai.." ^^

The TV features he notes for MIcrosoft, Sony also have in the form of the entire Sony pictures catalog of TV series and movies.

He is clearly coming from a point of bias.

I'm sorry, but those features aren't comparable from my point of view. Sony is bringing streaming of their catalog to the console. That already exists with hulu, netflix etc. on both consoles. It's just that Sony is giving access to their media themselves. Microsoft is adding support for live tv, with ex. "xbox watch Days of our Lives" instead of finding the channel etc. That's new.

People don't care as long as they can sit on their fat ass and not have to get up to switch a disc if they want to change game, or can save money by sharing their collection with their friends family.

For me it's more about being able to have the discs for fast installation, but not having to have them nearby. So after I install them I could put them in a box in my office to keep the living room clean. Being able to do matchmaking while playing another game is also a big benefit, as I hate loading/searching screens ^^

And FYI: insulting people who doesn't agree with you is just unnecessary. grow up.

Btw, can anyone tell me where the PS4's intake vents is? Every vent I can find is on the back, and if you put it in a shelf it would get hot as hell. I'm not saying the design wouldn't work, I'm just suprised. Smaller case and less ventilation with more GPU parts and higher freq. memory. I would guess it would need an intake, but I'm no product designer/engineer.

Honestly, I made the wrong title for the discussion I wanted to have. I should have (and trying to change, don't know why I can't, I'll figure it out and try to change it) said what are the areas in which each company is innovating and then gave my opinion on what I believe Sony isn't/is doing. Like I said before, I was trying to make it a flamebait article. That wasn't my purpose. Thanks to all the people who still ignored about being civil and name calling, and still going on about "policy" stuff /s. But an honest thank you to the people who are talking about "innovation." Yes, we have difference of opinion on what are innovations and that's what my true purpose of my post.

An innovation isn't nesscarily something that appeals to every one.

I mean, the Wii U & the Xbox One have potentially great innovations, but they are innovations I have little to no interest in.

I just want to play the games I like, the way I like. I only really ask for a new system that can enable games to do more.

It's surprising to see some people just eat up any positive spin Microsoft put on their DRM policies. It will be because of these people that our future generations will get comfortable with all the restrictions. Maybe Sony will give in and PS5 will have similar draconian measures. I see a sad future.

Oh please, that's ridiculously over dramatic & demonstrates a lack of understanding. Both Sony & MS want to eventually have digital only machines. They want Steam store like systems.

Microsoft are impliementing DRM to push digital purchases; make them more appealing so they can get that stuff down for future generations because, ultimately, digital distrubution is going away. Whether MS will succeed or not is anyones guess. Sony on the other hand clearly want to get the head start they didn't get last gen.

I wouldn't be surprised if PS5 & Xbox Two have no games using phsyical distrubution.

Sony went with the PS3 model (or traditional console model)

Microsoft went with the Steam model (which brings all benefits of Steam plus some more minus the 30day check on Steam)

I believe Sony went the safest route (did I say that in my first post? I can't remember) while the other companies are taking risks. I believe that also motivated me to say that Sony isn't innovating. There's no "major" difference between PS3 and PS4. With the Wii U and the Xbox One, there are (of course major is relative).

On the sides. Someone highlighted a pic in the Sony forums "PS4 design" thread.

PS4 already has that. It's called a Vita.

I personally wouldn't qualify it as it's more like an add-on (a $250 dollar one at that) but I guess so. Though Wii U did come out a year beforehand it seems more like a "tack on" to say you did it (like how they added the Six-axis for motion control...) more than an integral part of the experience. I respect your opinion though.

It's a great machine from what I understand, and Ubisoft is going to offer integration same as their WiiU offerings. But sony laid the seeds for it with minor (if not at all effective) PSP to PS3 integration as well.

if you want to use these amazing innovative features pointed out by sony fans, such as the gaikai streaming,or remote play,and whatever else, guess what, you need to always be connected. take the connection out and what do you have? can you tell me? just a game console with updated graphics. that's all. you guys are promoting all these features,and they all require an internet connection,yet you knock xbox for only requiring you to sign in once a day to sync your licenses. ironic.

it means nothing when the games presented didn't show any advantages graphically over xbox one, but had massive performance and framerate issues.

How is that a bad thing? I like to use that technologies, so I must be fat? I can say the same thing. Instead sitting your fat ass on the couch playing games, you can get out there to play some sports or enjoy outdoor activities.

I'm thinking if they make it mandatory (a la Kinect) because honestly...without stuff being mandatory, we're not going to get further (unless the systems update more frequently). Of course, that's a dream situation because the Vita is awesome but it's expensive.

But how can motion and voice controls or any other technology prove itself if nobody buys the equipment -> devs don't utilize the equipment ? I agree it's pricey, but someone has to "force" changes and take the blame for it. :-)

This is just a ****ing match that will never end. Both consoles...heck, all three of the next generation consoles are bringing something new to the home console market. Arguing about who did what first, or who did what better is a waste of time when you're discussing it with someone who goes to the, "Church of my favorite company."

Sony has listened and produced a console for gamers. Microsoft have gone and put a lot of extra features into their machine, which I don't think anyone asked for.....or wanted.
