Let's Clear Up The Issues: Used Games, Kinect Privacy, and Other

Angry nerds are consumers, chief. In fact, they are generally the most informed consumers which is what makes this more of a problem for MS.

As it stands now those "angry nerds" aren't thrilled by what they see.

Everyone's a consumer. Not everyone is angry. You're conflating you and those who believe what you do with everyone.

man, you are easily offended!

I never said I was offended, I said it was flame bait. Where's the confusion?

Angry consumers go to competitors, that is not a secret. It seems pretty unanimous that Sony's showing at E3 was better than MS'. That is if you go elsewhere on the internet and read news.

It's not a secret, but that doesn't mean everyone agrees.

I thought Sonys game selection sucked. 80% of the stuff I could've wanted is already on my PC. And there's a lot to love about the X1 either way.

I was not insulting you specifically with the 'angry nerd' comment, just people who think because they have convictions about something everyone must agree with them.

Anyway, as I've said before, I'd rather talk about games so I'm off.

I didn't assume you were directing it at me. Everywhere I have been online seems to have communities that have overwhelmingly negative opinions of what MS is doing. That might change in the future, but I can assure you that MS is not loving this PR disaster. Not only because it has been bad for them, but do beneficial to their competitor.

No one has solved my renting problem, I don't buy games, I rent 95% of the console games I play. Why don't I matter anymore?

As for the other 5%, I buy used, usually under $5, or on Steam, for under $5 (or $10 if its a goty), or up to $20 for a pack of atleast 4-5 games (most of which still cost over $30)

He included links to the official Xbox site saying mostly what he said. (I don't know if they were there at first or not, but they are now.)

Sorry. I meant the NeoGaf post. I was interested in that one. It looks woefully fake so I am not sure why the OP even posted it.

"Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.

Who are the participating retailers, and can you use the credit for any game or will you be restricted to only buying games from the same publisher as the used game? Ex. resell a Ubisoft title for credit towards other Ubisoft titles? Wy bother giving publishers power if they can't restrict things in their favour?

This seems to put a lot of power in the Publishers hands and very little in the retailers.

You sir are what is known in the trade as a "cheapskate" :)

Flame-baiting if I have ever seen it.

I agree that he started it off with some flame bait but we have all seen much worse on the internet. I was just pointing out that he didn't have a problem saying the ps4 was a good console

Why are they finalising a rather important aspect after their big reveal? If Sony was doing something similar they'd be slammed as being incompetent, consumer-hating jerks.

People on this forum need to accept that MS made a gamble on the used game issue and lost. MS is trying to tell consumers what they want and consumers aren't having any of it.

Look, I'm not defending their policies and I would feel the same if it was Sony. It just that MS looked disorganized and unprepared to lay out all the details of their policy. The pr blunders add to my thought that they are not on the same page.

Anyway, I still think they can fix their blunder before launch if they take us seriously and reach out to the community, willing to change their policies. We have months before launch and none of this stuff is set in stone. If its wrong to want them to change, then so be it.

Why is it that if you make any remark counter to the popular line that you get attacked as a defender or stupid? There is no room for talking about this stuff.

The sad thing is that it wasn't about the games. If you look at the game content of both, most have said MS did great. Sony won with a better drm policy. They have good games as well, but it was their emphatic drm announcement that made everyone happy.

Its sad because I would hate to miss out on the games coming to the X1. That's why I hope they come to their senses before launch. I want both consoles due to the games I saw. I want MS to alter its policy so that I can happily buy an X1.

See the fact that they haven't made that clear yet makes me think they are still working on it. I know its hard to believe, but man it sure seems like they don't know all the answers yet. That does not excuse the policies at all.

I'm interested to hear how a store participates in the program. If its easy and cost effective for them, then great. If its heavily restrictive, then boo.

As far as putting power in the publisher's hands vs retail, I don't know who the good guy is in that scenario. I've heard countless people complain about GameStop's overpriced used games, so not all retail is on the 'good side' here.

3rd party publishers can choose to do no drm on used games or whatever they want. Same as the ps4. I think what gets people upset is that MS is putting together a system that 3rd parties could potentially use vs the ps4 where they would need to put together their own system from scratch for drm. Frankly, I wonder how many publishers would actually use drm on just one console. I would think they would do it on both to avoid a sales impact. We will see.

And you sir are what I like to call, "rich".

Why go to the theater on friday + weekends, when you can see the same show, with less than 10 people in the same room for half the price on weekdays?

It's a waste of money to always buy the latest and greatest. In this case, getting a xbone, or playing multiplayer on the ps4 are for the rich.

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
