Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House has suggested that PS4 ?demand may well outstrip supply? after the console made all the right headlines at E3 this week. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the PlayStation boss said Sony has raised internal sales forecasts for the upcoming console following the positive reception shown by consumers and retailers over the past few days.

Sony revealed the actual PS4 hardware for the first time on Tuesday at its E3 press conference, where it also announced a Christmas release date in Europe and the US and a PS4 price of ?349 / ?399 / $399, which is $100 less than Xbox One?s launch cost. Consumers and retailers alike also reacted positively to the news that PS4 won?t impose restrictions on used games or require regular online check-ins, unlike Microsoft?s console.

SCEA CEO Jack Tretton said GameStop executives had told him the retailer would purchase "every single [PS4] unit" Sony can manufacture, a claim the WSJ verified with a spokesperson for the retailer. Meanwhile, SCE UK MD Fergal Gara told GamesIndustry.biz PS4 isn't in "mass manufacture right now" but that he expected to have ?very significant stocks for the UK".

As with every console release cycle, be prepared for scalping. I would not be surprised to see ps4 selling close to double retail on craigslist or ebay during the first couple weeks as people try to get their hands on it. Considering they are doing a global rollout to all regions simultaneously, that is going to further constrain supplies.

How is that news?

Almost every console sells out at launch regardless of popularity.

Yes. But I don't think they where expecting THIS many people to want one now.. Just from my facebook and reading comments on other gaming sites.. I would say at least 60% of xbox one people are now PS4 people..

^Not intended to start a flamewar. If you are going to quote me to argue.. do some research.

This was expected because Sony did everything right with the ps4 and didn't alienate it's gamers. The poor Wii U has been left out of all of these debates and arguments. Why isnt everyone talking about how awesome the Wii U is with its tablet-esque controller?

Most people say they might switch to ps4 now, but there's still a lot of time to change their minds, especially if MS grows a brain and backs down on drm closer to launch despite their strong stance right now. MS simply has no incentive to do this since they haven't started preorders yet to gauge their demand, which will surely be low when they do.

Wii/Nintendo never aimed to fight head to head with xbox and ps4. They are a class of it's own when it comes to casual gaming, and not for playing hardcore FPS gaming like CoD. The Mario franchise alone is worth getting it as a primary console for most casual gamers, and even better as a secondary console.

As expected, i expect the same for XB1 too. It's a common marketing technique to make people panic in to pre-ordering.

Can we possibly try not to turn this in to another flame fest?

I always wish the best for Nintendo because they had the first sucessful console (nes) and they always put the fun factor first. I still have my NES and still works. Playing Super Mario bros 2 & 3 is extremely fun and is timeless. Nintendo and Sony way back then were working together to put a console out, which obviously didnt go as planned.

It is news, not unexpected news, but news nonetheless.

Why does everything have to be breaking news on this forum to some people? It's just a topic people can discuss if they wish. The title was clear, if you felt you already knew this why bother clicking the link?

I'm not shocked by this at all. I've lived through enough console releases to know there will be shortages. I've also seen the shortages being used as pr to create even more demand. The ps4 won't be any different.

Seeing the way Microsoft transformed over the past few years I can't imagine them changing their mind. They're making worse decisions every day yet fail to see it.

MS seem willing to change in the face of consumer reaction hence things like win 8.1. The key is for them to see a real consumer reaction against certain things. That means no trolling or personal attacks, just people saying why they dislike features leading them to not buy. I hope MS listens and comes back with a positive solution. I also think they need to strike up a dialog with the gaming community somehow. Talk these things out, explain advantages and work out changes in our favor.

Apparently they haven't learned their lesson with Windows 8/8.1. You can't force change on people, especially when they are vocal even before the product is out. When Win8 beta was out, there was a large portion of testers that simply did not like the lack of the start button, yet they chose to ignore it and the end result is slow adoption. Time and time again, drm just fails to gain traction and more often results in more lost sales than not having it all. Yet MS is still going forward with it. The only positive solutio is to come in line with ps4's policies.

Maybe you haven't been following 8.1, but MS is seriously addressing issues like the lack of a start button and boot straight to desktop. There is a long list of tweaks meant to improve metro and to reduce the 'shock' between the desktop and metro.

MS doesn't have to match Sony's policies to make a compelling case for the X1. If they target Steam policies, they can make it work.

Basically, take away the check in requirement or extend it to something like a month, and you have a system mirroring Steam. Then MS can show off the additional sharing features that make it better than Steam.

Then when it comes to disc based releases, let the user choose. When you first install it, the system prompts you with a choice tying your purchase to a digital copy which gives you all the sharing/access features, play without a disc, etc, but you also get the limitations that go with any digital purchase. If you choose not to, then you must use your disc to play, just as you do now, but you don't have to deal with any restrictions such as the the online checks.

There is room for MS to make both sides happy. I just hope they take it seriously and reach out.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I have been following Win8.1 and well aware of the start button coming back due to "customer feedback." My point is MS should have never let it come this far to begin with and just listened when Win8.0 released the first time around when majority of the beta testers were complaining about it. Yet, they chose to ignore it and assume that users would put up with it. If do decide to that again with xbone, then it wil be too late to recover the xbox users who will buy a ps4 instead by the time they backtrack on some of their policies. I won't deny that there are gross misconceptions and overexagerations about some of the drm-related issues, even I still don't fully understand them nor do I have the time to. MS isn't doing much on their end to clear up the confusion or make it any easier to understand the benefits other than "this is great for supporting the game devs and using xbox live for everything allows us to provide quality content for you" type of responses.

I agree that they cannot wait a year like try did with win 8 to fix issues. My point was that we need to keep the pressure on them to fix things before launch, or it could be a bloodbath.

I know in the internet age we all get impatient with info, but considering we have months before launch, I want to see the pressure put on MS to fix things for the sake of gamers. It would suck to miss out on the games they have because of this. Not pressure as in screaming attacks, but just laying out the issues.

With BUILD coming up soon, we will be hearing about the dev plans for the X1, hopefully the indie program they mentioned before. They need to use that to start over imo. Then they need to reach out to the community as much as possible and tweak their rules.

Its frustrating as a gamer to have to avoid a console with a strong roster of games. I don't care about the console wars, I usually buy all the consoles, but having to waste time worrying about drm sucks. So to MS.....get your act together and clean this up.

What on earth are you talking about? Your trolling is beginning to get grating :p

their electronics arm has lost like 9b in the last decade while their financial arm that sells insurance has made 9b. Analysts say their electronics arm is worthless. I'm not making this up. You think they have the financial means to go nuts and manufacture a bunch of product that may not sell?

Wait wait wait... we're listening to analysts now? The same people that in any given article will be slammed for pulling things out of their ass? Why the hell are we referencing analysts all of a sudden, if but only because they favor someone's argument?

You might as well have said, "Some jackasses say their electronics arm is worthless." Reads the same at least.

ok some jackasses say their electronics arm is worthless, happy? but that doesn't change the fact that they are in a bad spot financially, and making too much product is risky, and would probably be opposed. theyre selling their office buildings, axing 10,000 people, selling bonds to raise capital, horrible credit rating. do you even pay attention to this stuff. they're in a world of hurt.

And Microsoft is in a world of hurt in terms of PR, as people have been slamming Windows 8 and Xbox One all over the place.

Let's be realistic here: the Xbox One will sell, Windows 8 is already selling, and the PS4 will sell just as well. Why we need all this doom and gloom is beyond me. :ermm:

    • Microsoft releases PowerToys v0.100.1, fixes a bug that made remapped keys misbehave by Ivan Jenic Microsoft just released PowerToys v0.100.1, a patch update that addresses several stability and behavior issues found in v0.100.0. The v0.100.0 patch was a significant update for PowerToys, as it introduced all sorts of new features and additions, such as a rebuilt Shortcut Guide, a Command Palette Extension Gallery, webcam overlay support in ZoomIt, and more. However, the v0.100.0 version also introduced some bugs and stability issues. And now, Microsoft is addressing these issues in the new patch. The most impactful fix in this release perhaps is in Keyboard Manager, where remapped modifier keys were being delivered as system-key events, causing unexpected behavior in apps. The clearest example of this was Alt-to-Backspace remaps, deleting whole words instead of a single character. So, if you thought there was an issue with your keyboard, Microsoft just confirmed that it was PowerToys. Beyond the Keyboard Manager fix, v0.100.1 also addresses several other issues. It fixes a bug with Power Display that was preventing monitors from waking from standby correctly. Additionally, the new update patches Quick Access crashes on launch, and resolves a Shortcut Guide crash that occurred when switching between sidebar sections. Here’s the full changelog: Color Picker Fixed a bug where the main Color Picker window could appear inside the zoomed-in picker view Command Palette Fixed Run history initialization in AOT builds Fixed a bug where the Performance Monitor dock item could show ??? after restart Fixed the Hibernate command using the Sleep icon Limited the "pin to dock" dialog to displays where the dock is enabled Keyboard Manager Fixed modifier keys remapped to non-modifier keys being delivered as system-key events, which caused unexpected behavior in apps such as Alt-to-Backspace deleting whole words Power Display Fixed a bug where selecting On in the monitor power-state control did not wake a monitor from standby Fixed built-in display detection and brightness control on dual-GPU laptops where the internal panel is driven by the discrete GPU PowerToys Run Fixed VS Code Workspaces discovery after VS Code moved recently opened workspace data to shared storage Quick Access Fixed Quick Access flyout crashes caused by unhandled XAML exceptions during launch or page navigation Shortcut Guide Fixed a crash when navigating between Shortcut Guide sidebar sections Fixed number-key rendering in shortcut manifests and added a Postman shortcut manifest Updated bundled shortcut manifests to use the literal number-key token so number keys render correctly across apps ZoomIt Fixed a race condition in audio initialization for ZoomIt video recording You can download PowerToys v0.100.1 from the official GitHub releases page.

    • Grand Theft Auto VI pricing revealed alongside Ultimate Edition and pre-loading details by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Last week, Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will be starting soon, and just a day ahead of that, now the studio has announced the official pricing for the highly anticipated game. This has been a hotly debated topic among fans and industry veterans for a long time, considering the game is expected to be the biggest entertainment product launch ever. The confirmed pricing for the Grand Theft Auto VI standard edition is $79.99, which Rockstar says gives access to the "single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet." This follows what most of our readers thought would happen with the pricing too. At the same time, a $99.99 Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition has been confirmed as well, which lands with "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story." Pre-ordering will also give fans extra bonuses, including a Vintage Vice City Pack of cosmetic items as well as a free month of GTA+. Head to the official website of the game here to check out all the cosmetic rewards the Ultimate Edition and pre-orders bring. Interestingly, the studio does not mention Grand Theft Auto VI multiplayer at all in today's announcement. Perhaps this will arrive later, following the campaign launch, or the studio is keeping that reveal for a later date. Digital pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will begin on June 25, 2026, at midnight local time across regions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The title is slated to launch on November 19 on those same platforms. Pre-loading for Grand Theft Auto VI will kick off on November 12, giving players a week to get the game ready on their consoles. As for the physical edition, Take-Two has confirmed that this will be available without a disc, with the box only containing a download code inside. This will be purchasable starting November 12, giving players who take this route time to pre-load the title as well.
