It used to be quite the challenge to make a Linux desktop business-ready. Most every business depended upon niche, proprietary software that simply could not be run on anything but Windows. However, times have changed and so much of business is now handled through a web browser. Add to that how much the Linux platform has matured and you have the makings for a big win on the open source front.

can a business, theoretically use office 365 through a browser in Linux? personally I don't see why not.

can a business, theoretically use office 365 through a browser in Linux? personally I don't see why not.

I would say that the business is better using Google Docs and Google Apps if they want cross platform support. 

 

We use Office 365 and it's very apparent that Windows is a first class citizen on the platform, MacOSX is a second class citizen and linux is off the radar. 

 

With businesses pushing into the cloud Microsoft needs to ensure that Office 365 is a bit more slimmed down in terms of bandwidth required and work on improving support for browsers other than IE. It works on other browsers but the best integration is with IE, Microsoft really needs to see Office 365 as platform neutral to ensure good market penetration.
