DICE to 'innovate,' 'try new things' with Battlefront

Recommended Posts

As we reported, Electronic Arts recently swooped up the Star Wars license, announcing several upcoming projects in the process, including a new Battlefront helmed by Battlefield developer DICE. Speaking to IGN, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau explained how DICE's experience with combat on the macro and micro levels -- from first-person gunplay to long range vehicular warfare -- has positioned them as just the right team to work on Battlefront. Perhaps this is a mild hint that the ground to space battles from cancelled Battlefront 3 are squarely in mind?

?But they?re not just going to ape what we?ve seen in the past,? Gibeau said of DICE's intent. "They?re going to bring their own sensibilities and design ideas. We want to innovate. We want to try new things."

Innovation is good. I don't think any Star Wars fan wants a re-skinned Battlefield. DICE may be known for helming EA's flagship, war shooting franchise, but it can do different; it can do innovation. After all, DICE also brought us Mirror's Edge, one of the surprising treats of the generation. I think Battlefront is in good hands.

Wrong, try again

No no, please go on and tell us everything that we've already heard before. We love to beat a dead horse! :woot:

Anyway, I'd love to see what DICE comes out with. They seem to have a good team over there, and I'm interested to see what they can do with the Star Wars name. I never really cared a whole lot for Star Wars up until recently so I'm excited being able to be at a point where we can see Star Wars move forward in the theaters as well as games.

It's not my style, I am not about to get into a 'debated to death' debate, just now I find myself more cautious when buying any game from EA, if they do it justice, then great.

Battlefront was a great idea that was poorly executed, in my opinion. In fact, the article points out exactly what I thought of it:

a re-skinned Battlefield

There was nothing new brought to the game. Hopefully DICE picking up the franchise will bring something special to set it apart.

Hopefully next-gen features such as lean and fish AI.
I did love the previous Battlefront games, had hours of fun with those, though I'm might not too happy to hear "new things" and "EA" in the same sentence, which mostly means streamlining in a way that damages the gameplay (Here's looking at you Dragon Age 2)..

VS no release at all?

Be grateful that it's DICE and not some random 3rd rate team. This title has as much potential as any.

Interesting you chose to reply to that statement and yes, I'm substituting another word by using the word 'reply', seeing as I stated I'm not intersted in restarting that particular debate.

If they do a good game, then great. As far as gratitude goes, irrelevant, seeing as it's the end user who has the greater power to make or break a title.

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
