Well after reading that, can't you tell? And let them make that. We thought about it and didn't want to for reasons that have been stated numerous times (load on MS Servers, what's the diff between that an WU, what if you want to use it where they have no Internet connection, etc etc etc). Plus, many updates we have don't come from Windows Update.

So I don't mind if they make theirs. Let them. I'm not stoppin' what I'm doing and I hope no one decides to stop their support! :)

This is why I would never use that app.

1. I picked up a new account ( a property management office ) They have several systems including the new one I built and set up in there office. They just ordered DSL, which is not live yet, and there are problems with there lines. None of there systems have ever been updated nor do they even have SP1 on them for that matter. I took my Autopatcher CD and SP1, and I updated them. Now there systems run better and it made me look good for the fact that I came prepaired.

2. I have 2 other accounts that do not have Internet connections for me to download updates.

3. 1 account I have only has 56k do you think I have the time to sit and download every update on that type of line?

4. What they are making is nothing more then what Windows Update is. And thus I would just stick with WU.

My AutoPatcher XP CD has saved me a lot of time that I do not always have at an account. No thanks, I will stick with it.

I don't trust stuff that M$ release..... I want their stuff to be checked and confirmed by people like flishfun first :D :D

even though I haven't use AutoPatcher XP YET, but I know I like it already... and I will use it sometime near X-Mas, cuz that's when I'm gonna clean format my PC, for now... windows update is good enough.

i am not switching to the rival i will always stick wiv this because it has many advantage for me i was merely saying there is one because i am active on this board and msfn because i feel there is information 2 be gained from both.

Im not saying all of this stuff was msfn's idea, but they have definatly brought it to a new level and have all the resources people use when they are making an unattended cd. I bet you guys used some info to make autopatcher didnt you? I think the two communities can compliment each other...and I hope they do.

Unfortunately there is a huge, well... I don't know how to really describe it. I guess the closest thing I can say, is that there's a huge feud between the two sites. I've looked through, and near every post there that has to do with the AP is a diss towards us (the only ones that aren't seem to be from people who are also members here). I like what they're attempting (we considered it for a time, but for our reasons decided against it), but I don't like them saying they're making it because our program sucks. That's all.

Actual they have a very good point. I don't know FlishFun, or anyone else here for that matter, well enough to just throw caution to to wind and install something on my machines that I don't know hasn't been tampered with or compromised. I have also wondered about the legality of redistributing MS patches, service packs or fixes, but that is another issue i guess.

Please understand I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, this is just my humble opinion... I do understand the demand for this type of utility and I like the idea. I think it is a good idea, as someone mentioned before, if you don't have a internet connection, the time or bandwidth to download the patches at the moment to have these available on CD without too much effort.

Thankfully, I have another solution for patch management on all my systems so I don't have to worry much about the risks of these community based solutions at the moment. Although I suppose having Autopatcher on hand might be a good idea for emergencies, especially if you work on other peoples PCs. Although, I'd probably get them to sign a disclaimer first, just to cover your a*s*s ;)

Well the program has a EULA that says neither us nor Microsoft are liable (that's our way of covering our ass). And as far as people sayin' the files aren't legit or may have been messed up or whatever. All the files are downloaded direct from MS, and then put in the patcher. Anyone who wants to check the files, may download them themselves and compare them to the ones in the AP. I guarentee they are 100% exactly the same. :) As far as legality, it was discussed in another thread, and we agree the way we have it is, indeed, legal (according to their EULA).

I understand exactly what you're saying. Infact, I'd think the same if I was in your place (and in different situations, have been there). Of course, I'd download it and check the files myself to check. ;) Don't worry about rufflin' feathers... as long as it's done nice, like you did. I just don't like comments like "It sucks" when they didn't try it or anything else. I've spent lots of time on it and I only like well thought out opinions (like yours seems to be).

A lot of the people who are using this are using it for other people's system (people who work in the IT field)... since you mentioned it, thought I'm bring it up.

We could have our patcher pull from Microsoft's servers, but for many reasons, I just don't want to (anyone remember how hard it was to download from Microsoft when they released the Blaster patch? I know that probably between 5,000 - 10,000 people have downloaded the AutoPatcher... and I'd hate to see the strain that would put on Microsoft's servers if they all had to connect to download 60+ MB's worth of updates. lol). But I thank you for posting your opinion... because it gives me the thoughts of someone who sees things a little differently. (Y) Thank you. :)

Its mainly Gosh over there thats talking crap in AP...and thats because hes spent years doing this the hard way and hes just old school. The other people just like being able to have full control. I am sure if youve looked over there at what theyve said about AP, you have definately seen me fighting for AP, and some of them agree with me...

Not even going to try the rival... I use Flish's as a stand-alone, offline installer. Don't want to be pulling stuff across the net. BTW... updated several PC's at work with AutoPatcher, very well done :D

I'd just like to see a few more active ftp or http links to AutoPatcher.. took me a while to find a live one, and torrent and emule dont work behind my corporate firewall :wacko:

OK, let me hear how portable their's is? Then we will start speaking of the ability to customize... I read somewhere that 'you cant customize AutoPatcher'... i mean WTF! Do they think before saying such things or what? Anyhow... I dont see how their app is better than ours... I see no concept in it (Jason can tell you a lot about all the planning I did... how the program would work etc...)

You guys are making this into too much of a competition. They have had this idea before and before that they tried and they tried before that. They keep coming up with these very extreme ways to do it, so it never ends up getting done. I think you should just leave the competition aspect out. They havent said anything about AP in their Pathcher thread...
