MU Folding USB plug (UK)

A couple of years ago I read a tech article about a new folding plug design which meant you could keep your phone/tablet charger on your person and not have to deal with keeping it in a bag because the pins stick out.

Some people thought it would never see the light of day but here it is!

Out of the box you'd immediately think it was an Apple product. It looks and feels as good as what you're expect from them and while the price of ?25 might put some off, I think the price is justified for the quality you're getting and of course convenience/portability.

I've been using this on a number of devices but mostly the Galaxy Note 2 because I wanted to confirm it was able to charge that phone adequately since the official Note 2 charger outputs 2Amps but this one outputs 1Amp.

Over long term use I haven't seen any problems at all, the convenience of having a charger as thin as a box of matches is really handy. I've been able to stow it away in pockets and places that the standard charger would never fit:

I'm sure the price will come down over time as it's still relatively new but for those wanting something like this now, I can recommend it :)

That looks handy

I put mine in my laptop bag when i go away but always worried about snapping pins off

That was what I had when owning a laptop in the past. Up until now with smartphones I've hedged on the hope that there would be a USB port wherever I go be it on a TV set or someone's computer because I didn't want to carry a chunky plug around incase I needed to charge. This kind of charger changes all that :)

Shame it only puts out 1 Amp :(

Probably not ideal for devices that strictly need 2A but on the Note 2 it still charges while being used so for such a device it's not a huge deal. I imagine tablets would be a different matter though.

Genius, I'm surprised they are't going to just make a ton of money out of it then make the patents for the design available for free use, so that all companies use it.

I look around every now and then to see if some Chinese maker has cloned it, not yet!

this was invented years ago, not sure if it this company or not. The way they were marketing it was at making product boxes for laptops etc and for plugs to go in bags with laptops without scratching the laptops.

They look pretty good but those are pretty much the only reason uses, trying to reach behind the sofa to plug something in with a prongs that bend would be a pain, a molded plug is much better for those types of uses.

    • Can confirm, I've built stuff for others and no complaints using their products.
    • Yes I agree, it's annoying. You can now miss tabs unless you point low enough.
