Guy lets 16 Quake 3 AI bots duke it out for 3 years!

Recommended Posts

Quake 3 was probably the last game I played a lot up until maybe 3 or 4 years ago, CTF fun :p Now my legit CD Key doesn't work, so I can't play it anymore :(

Anyway, this guy has a server and purposely left 16 AI bots to duke it out between each other, here's what happened:

:p

Hahaha, I love the idea of bots reaching a level of intelligence where they realise the best thing to do to survive is not fight!

And the fact that they ganged up on the guy that did want to fight...brilliant.

Um neural networks and (programmed) AI are two different things. I used to run a Q3 server too and you could set individual bots to be easy to kill or very hard to kill, and they did learn from prolonged activity.

Oh but lookee here! I've been running a similar server for the past 10 years and each of my bots AI logs weigh a hefty 7GB. Ooh :D

Interesting read if there's any truth to it.

And you're kidding me right? Those just dummy files you got there?

First off windows didn't crash or the server didn't go down for 4 years... Ummm what.

I like the idea but is there any truth to this? And with quake 3s WAY low specs he could have captured a video easily so someone better make him demonstrate this or he could be full of crap and just another message board attention ######.

None of these things add up so I'm calling fake. I sure as hell want to see some smart AI tests though.

    • Fire and rehire. Doubt the work contracts are as favourable. Smart tactic using AI to do it legally.
    • > And, of course, it includes in-game purchases. Sigh.. of course it does. I just don't understand why anyone would want to play this on PC, when the far superior AoE 2/DE exists. Just kill this with fire already. Or a trebuchet.
