Microsoft Fonts on Linux

I was curious if anyone has suggestions on how to get the most complete set of Microsoft fonts for Linux....where to go and how to do it would really help! :yes:

You can copy your True Type fonts from Windows to Linux.

There is a directory "/etc/X11/fonts/trye_type" (I think) that you simply copy the fonts into. Then restart your X server by pressing "Alt + Ctrl + Backspace".

I think in KDE Control Centre that there is a tool for importing True Type fonts too (although I'm not 100% sure because the first method I mentioned worked for me).

Also, yes.. yes.. I know.. I'm saying buy something... but CrossOver office includes all generic windows fonts (or you could do a search on sourceforge for microsoft core fonts).

How do you get the clear type fonts to work with Linux. So the fonts on your desktop look like Mac OSX or Windows XP, but with KDE 3.1

There are no cleartype fonts, just TTF fonts. All you have to do is enable Anti-Aliasing which is under your fonts settings.

im using suse 9.0 and i can update to microsoft fonts via yast2. just in case you are running suse also...
