Have you read the Bible?

Recommended Posts

Actually I have read the bible Three times over.

On a side note variations of the bible abound all over. King James, The Living Bible, New World Translation. So I am not sure how reading the bible will help you learn about english. Each one translates words differently some have complete texts removed. But hey I think it is a valuable resource. Lot of good principles that can apply to our lives today.

huh? Your teachers tell you if you want to learn english correctly - you should learn the bible?? Your teachers are just a bunch of thumpers! For one - pretty sure that the use of the bible in public school would, even if for some type of english classs would be walking a fine line on the separation of church and state issue.

I know for sure if my kids brought home a bible as a text book - I would be bringing it to someones attention!

If looking for examples of the proper use of english, etc.. - the bible sure and the hell would not be on my top 100.

He said read, not learn.

I learned something awhile time ago. Never say never.

Anyway, I'm in the process of finishing up the New Testimant in the New Living Translation on my palm. Much lighter to carry around, and fun to sit in bed with the palm glow whilst reading.

I used to have to read it when I had to go to vbs and church when I was a kid. I decided it was bull**** because it contradicted the science books I was reading.

If ya wanna learn English, just start reading. Read anything that interests you. Get a dictionary to go with your books and look up stuff that you don't understand.

I used to have to read it when I had to go to vbs and church when I was a kid.  I decided it was bull**** because it contradicted the science books I was reading.
So, you figure that something that has been believed for thousands of years is BS because of something that has only been THEORY for the last 200 or so years?? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Do they mention dinosaurs in the Bible? Since in the Bible doesn't it say that Adam and Eve were the first life he created? So where do the Dinosaurs fit in this? There bones came from somewhere. Then I think theres another religion out there that says jeebus created the universe in 7 days or something, so how come scientists say its billions of years old? Humans haven't been around that long.

i only read the NT, its far easier.

Also, it don't have the books that are full of bull$hit.

Example:

And he was Ham the son of Belshazza, who begat Abel, the brother of Werbel, who begat Sham and Blam, the sisters of Terwet, whose dog came to be known as Rover

Silly old testament lol :laugh:

Hardy...being taught that the Earth is only 7000 or so years old made me suspicious. Asking why fossils date back MILLIONS of years resulted in having the teacher tell me that god put the fossils there so that we could find them only confirmed my belief that the bible had a high bs factor. I also couldn't agree with them teaching us that humans aren't descended from apes when there is evidence to contradict that. You take the bible as gospel (pun intended) but for all we know it was written by a bunch of guys sitting around a table drinking beer and making stuff up as they went along.

If you're blind enough to believe the bible, FINE...I'm not.

neopwi Find the part in Job about the "behemoth" and tell me what that sounds like...

[EDIT] From Job, Chapter 40:

15"Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you;

He eats grass like an ox.

16 See now, his strength is in his hips,

And his power is in his stomach muscles.

17 He moves his tail like a cedar;

The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.

18 His bones are like beams of bronze,

His ribs like bars of iron.

19 He is the first of the ways of God;

Only He who made him can bring near His sword.

20 Surely the mountains yield food for him,

And all the beasts of the field play there.

21 He lies under the lotus trees,

In a covert of reeds and marsh.

22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade;

The willows by the brook surround him.

23 Indeed the river may rage,

Yet he is not disturbed;

He is confident, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth,

24 Though he takes it in his eyes,

Or one pierces his nose with a snare.

The point of reading the Bible is that probably 50% of modern English literature references it in someway or another. People learn how to read plot and character through their cultural backgrounds. For most Western readers, that background comes from a)the Bible, and b) fairy tales. So, if you had no understanding of either of those two things, reading most books would have very little significance to you.

There's a whole line of literary studies which focuses entirely on biblical references and Jesus imagery in literature.

The bible was first writen in various languages, Aramaic, Hebrew. Then compiled in Greek, then translated into Latin, from which most modern language translations come from....

Im not a bible scholar, so I might be wrong in the exact order, but what is for sure is that its a translation of a translation of a translation.......

What I suspect here is that english teaching is being done mostly by American missionaries over there, with the agenda of then inserting the Bible...

neopwi This is actually somewhat incorrect.

It was once translated into Latin, but the only recent translation that I know of that was done from the latin are the King James/New King James version.

NIV, etc, are taken from the greek/hebrew.

My bibles include books on Network Security and TCP-IP....Here you get the facts....

TCP-IP was born in paradise 4000 years ago , TCP met IP and they took a byte of the forbidden data packet......Then they were cast to live in a Ethernet 10 Mbps infrastucture...ect etc

LOLOL

Gave me a good laugh that one

Cheers

The funniest thing I've heard in a while. I'll be laughing at this for the next couple of hours.

Everyone should the read the bible its more than religious book , its also a very solid and descriptive history lesson

Dont forget that the bible (ignoring some of the more religious tales) covers about 3000 years of Human history

I'm not religious (am Jewish) but I read it and I liked reading it and there are very mysterious tales in it : The Nephilim , The entire book of Exodus - dont forget the ten commandments , the western moral and justice system is based on them , The rise and fall of the Ashurian Epmire , the Babylonian Empire and the Persian Empire all to way to the Greek Empire.

Very good book for non religious people I think

    • I sort of agree with you on that. I had a telescope - a real hefty thing, although only around 500CHF - that got me so fascinated about the stars and planets. I would stare for hours, amazed that I could see the craters of the moon or the rings of Saturn in "realtime" (quotations because, y'know, speed of light and whatnot). A friend of mine has a telescope like the one mentioned in the review, and the pictures are amazing to look at. But there is something missing for me. I may as well just go to NASA's website and look through their gallery.
    • As opposed to catching bad press because it's the engine's fault? You didn't really think this through did you? lol. The engine has all the tools a dev needs to optimize their game, Epic isn't gonna hold their hand to make sure they use them. Also, Epic isn't forcing anyone to use Lumen, Nanite or super high resolution meshes and textures. Most of the stuttering can easily be fixed by generating a PSO cache and compiling every shader before loading the game, it's up to the developer to set it up properly.
    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.
    • I misread the title and thought Teams itself would be redesigned. Imagine having this one as a native WinUI app.
    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
