Have you read the Bible?

That is so not pre bible... although the bible was only finally composed during the 15th century the stories are far older , for instance Abraham is presumed to live around 2500BC-3000BC , way before Greece had anything of value

Everyone should the read the bible its more than religious book , its also a very solid and descriptive history lesson

Dont forget that the bible (ignoring some of the more religious tales) covers about 3000 years of Human history

I'm not religious (am Jewish) but I read it and I liked reading it and there are very mysterious tales in it : The Nephilim , The entire book of Exodus - dont forget the ten commandments , the western moral and justice system is based on them , The rise and fall of the Ashurian Epmire , the Babylonian Empire and the Persian Empire all to way to the Greek Empire.

Very good book for non religious people I think

a lot of people believe its fictional, and they could be correct

Regarding dinosaurs not being mentioned in the bible:

FYI - the word "dinosaur" wasn't introducted into the English language until sometime in the 1800's.. so of course there is no mention of "dinosaurs" in the Bible. What do you think people called dinosaurs before that? Maybe dragon, behemoth, leviathan, etc. Do you think everyone in the world calls a "humpback whale" a "humpback whale"? I also never remember reading specifically about "sharks" or "alligators", but that doesn't mean they weren't around at the time the Bible was written.

Well, it appears we have quite the assortment of individuals here on this thread. All of you came to this post because you had some sort of interest in the Bible or you wouldn't have bothered to read and post.

We all have to remember that we are only human. There is much that we do not know. I always refer to the saying "Where this is much light the shadow is deep". In other words: The more we know the more we find out we don't know. There are many Theories which have been developed which many of us believe are true, but what proof do we have of any of these? If you think back to the development of science and how many of our beliefs, back many years, were 'iron clad' and now we wonder how silly we could have been to believe these things once believed.

All of you with an open mind think about this for a second. If it were true that there were a Heaven and a Hell, and therefore a God and a Devil, would it not make sense that the Devil would try to deceive and lead us astray? He surely would not want God to win. Would he not use 'Science' and 'Facts' to distort the Truth? If you wanted someone to believe something at all costs what would you do? Would you not find all that you could to prove your point and present it (and exclude all things which are contradictory)?

It is said that we resemble* Apes by something like 98% (don't quote me) but it is also true to we resemble* Pigs about 98% as well. Does it make those believers of evolution feel any better that they are just as close to Apes as they are Pigs (no offense intended). *resemble in the biological sense.

This is obviously a topic which could, and has, filled many books. I would like to say lastly that the Bible (and Christianity in general) is all based on Faith. The Bible is not a book of Scientific Facts to prove without a doubt that God exists. It is the Christians' (as well as the Jews' - Old Testament) book of learning and hope. It is for those of us that Believe to go and learn what we have been asked by God to do and to give us hope for the afterlife.

God wants us to have Faith in him. That is why religion is called 'Faith' and not 'Proof'.

From the Immortal words of Jesus:

"Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29)

He said this to one of his disciples after he had risen from the dead and came to see his disciples/apostles. Thomas would not believe that Jesus had risen (and was God) until he saw him. Much like all of us. These days we want proof for everything.

God Bless.

It's not about whether or not you believe in what the Bible says, it's about the fact that a HUGE number of our cultural stories are taken from the Bible! The Ten Commandments? The flood? Abraham and his son? Adam and Eve! The tower of Babel, etc, etc, etc. The New Testament has even more relevant ones (the Samaritans, the Prodigal Son, walking on water, Lazarus, the three wise men, and on and on). Even if you think it's a load of crap, it's worth reading just for the stories. Even popular culture has references to the Bible. The Family Guy brought it up like, every other show, the Simpsons does all the time.

And someone mentioned Paradise Lost. Only if you read ****ty fiction books will you not run into Biblical allusions. Or, you'll think they're unique to that story when, in fact, their just ripped straight from Biblical tales.

Well, I'm Christian and for me the bible is 100% true as it is the word of God.

This is my faith and it's what I believe in.

If you think it's not true I'll be praying for you so God can open your eyes and you will be free.

We all have freewill, you can believe in what you want but be warned that there is only one God.

Peace.

you can believe in what you want but be warned that there is only one God.

That's what all gods say. :shifty:

If you think it's not true I'll be praying for you so God can open your eyes and you will be free.

Please, don't pray for me: I'm already free. If I were to believe in this god, I would be confined.

Only if you read ****ty fiction books will you not run into Biblical allusions. Or, you'll think they're unique to that story when, in fact, their just ripped straight from Biblical tales.

All books are rip-offs of the Bible? Or did I read that wrong? Maybe I'm too tired.

ignoring religios and other life lessions in the bible, like BudMan said, i can't say it's a good book to learn english from..

it's language is...let's say uncommon.

just like William Shakespeare. it's a good read if you want to learn literrature, but it's not something you would use to teach ESL. middle english is not in used today.

but then again, be it modern english or middle english, JB would still make same amount of sense (none)

I've read a great deal of the New Testament, and I didn't believe a single word of it.

One thing that I find to be hilarious, is how people say that they read the Bible every Sunday. How long does it honestly take to read?

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • Fascinating...W h i t e P o w e r is now also asterisks out.
    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
