Apple (like Microsoft) has habitually included several fantastic background wallpapers with the OS (typically the GM bits - which is why Mavericks doesn't have them yet); that they did so with ML (as was the case with Lion, Snow Leopard, and even Leopard beforehand) is FAR from surprising. The fun factor is taking that same collection of desktop backgrounds and copying them to an NTFS partition, so you can use them as wallpaper in *Windows*.
