Bluetooth Applications

Recommended Posts

I have this app called Romeo that lets me do just about ANYTHING on my mac as long as it's applescript aware. I can control iTunes, DVD Player, MPlayer OSX, Safari, the mouse, brightness, volume. The coolest feature is it can automatically lock my screen and mute the volume when I leave the room, PERFECT for when I go to class.

Well the most relevant application that I would use is the internet. Both t-mobile and sprint have unlimited digital transfer minutes for like 5 to 10 dollars a month more. It is meant to use the internet actually on the phone itself, but if your phone is bluetooth enabled, you can use your laptop and you phone as the connection. This is an alternative to paying another 80 dollars a month on a specific pcmia card plan and it means you can be on the internet anywhere you phone has signal. The speed is only 100k, but hey, that's enough for browsing and checking email. It is really cool for road trips. My phone just has usb right now, so it still works fine, but it's just one more cable. If you have bluetooth, you just set it to connect, stick it in your pocket, bust out your powerbook and you are set.

There's also the SE T6xx series that use bluetooth as well. I have a SE T616 and while I haven't found a way to get the phone online to the net over bluetooth(I don't think it's possible either) it has helped me personalize my phone with pics of allyson hannigan. I just download the wallpapers, games and ringers I want then hop on my phone and browse my pc's files from bluetooth and download them thatway.

That's one of the main reason I got a Mac as my laptop. It works fine on XP as well but it's built-in the mac and OS X. It was a pain to install my BT usb dongle on my windows XP machine.

I can go on-line with bluetooth when I am not home. With T-mobile it's $10 a month for unlimited data (web and email only they block other ports) or $19 for unlimited/all ports. It's not broadband... but it's decent for checking emails and light surfing. (About dial up speed)

You can also control your computer with it. Not only iTune but anything really. You can move the mouse with the joystick of SE phone. Send pictures, theme, ring tones...

If you do presentations you can use your phone as a remote.

Same if you use it to watch DVD's.

Not to mention bluetooth devices such as mouse, keyboards and PDA. I am sure there will be more soon. (There is a bluetooth add-in for iPods that will be available later this year)

I use it for sending txt messages quickly by using Address Book... I also use iSync to sync my calendars from iCal and my address book to my T610. I used it for the net once, but it was horribly expensive so I stopped. I seem to remember it was a case of going into Network Preferences and setting up a new bluetooth modem.

Just to make it clear: I use the phone to connect the computer to the net. Not the other way around.

Here is a good link:

http://homepage.mac.com/jrc/contrib/tzones/

Only change is that I left the "number to connect" blank. (He had it set up to wap.voicestream.net and that did not work for me.)

Worked like a charm the first time!

I am using the "Ericsson GPRS CID1" modem script. You can get it here:

http://www.taniwha.org.uk/

If your data account is CID2, use the CID2 script. You can check on your phone what's the CID, it should be 1 unless you have many data accounts.

Do you know if the wireless BT features will work on XP (net access). If so, I might just get a BT dongle for my XP laptop and get the service.

that app is great for theming and you don't even need to pay for it - just use the export preview, delete the JPG Preview folder, add an xml file with the byte sizes of each of the files then tar the whole directory and send to your phone. Worked a treat for my T610 Panther theme :D

Yes it works on XP as well. It was easy to set up for me. If you have your T610 CD that came with it pop it in. There is an option to set up a dial up connection on the CD. It will ask you if you want to dial up an ISP or use GPRS then walk you thru. I got it set up with BT and IRDA just fine.

    • Nice! My $100 refurbished iPad 8 that I bought last year for a small project (and still runs like new cuz it's been mostly in storage the past several months) will get this v26 upgrade. I'm definitely gonna scope out OS26 on this device before upgrading my also-supported refurbished iPhone SE 3rd Gen (only got it for the 5G UW support).
