Issue deleting folders

yo.

so i used autopatcher xp and it made a butt load of folders on my d drive (which is a logical partition on the same hdd as my system partition).

i cannot delete any of these files. i have tried every way i know how, editing perms, using dos, etc.

it says that i cannot delete them becuase they are in use. they did not show up until after i used axp.

here is a screenie. hope someone can help me delete this crap off my hdd.

Sometimes the updates leave those folders there, though they should be removed upon reboot. How odd. Try this (unless you already did):

Reboot into Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt, then try to delete them. With explorer disabled and you in safe mode, it should let you delete them.

That is very odd though, at most all I've ever had was 2... and it let me delete them upon reboot... :blink: Well, I'll help you get rid of 'em man, one way or another.

Well I feel ya man. You're the only person to report this happening, so I'll do my best to help you get them gone. You shouldn't have to reformat. I'm almost positive that you'd be able to delete them in Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt. Also, I'll try and see if I can find any reason that this would have happened... I'll let you know if I find anything, and you keep me posted on the removal.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem delete the temporary folder after you install the hotfix, and then restart the computer.

So I'd say give it a shot... if it doesn't work, just try what I suggested earlier. But also, now I know to include a warning for those with Hyperthreading enabled.

Yeah, sorry... that's what I meant. Try disabling HT, then try it. I think it will work, but if not, try the "Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt" idea. I'm sure one of those two ways will work. And now we also know that you must disable HT before running the AutoPatcher (or even just manually patching your system with an older hotfix).

Oops... sorry, thought you only tried the HT way. Hmmm... both ways don't work?? Okay, give me a little more time to look into this, there hasta be a way.

rmdir foldername I think is the command you want.

Removes (deletes) a directory.

RMDIR [/s] [/Q] [drive:]path

RD [/s] [/Q] [drive:]path

/S Removes all directories and files in the specified directory

in addition to the directory itself. Used to remove a directory

tree.

/Q Quiet mode, do not ask if ok to remove a directory tree with /S

do that from saemode with command prompt, the del command only work with files, not directorys.

another thing to try is to (disable simple file sharing if you have it enabled first) highlight all those folders you can't delete, then right click, properties. go to security tab and make sure you have ownership of those folders. maybe you dont? that would stop you from deleting the folders. if you don't, force ownership and get rid of those bad boys
