trihawk7
So me and my friend were talking about a few cars that are potentially on my buy list but, when I went onto my News Feed to check a few things, here comes an advert and guess what it was? Yes a Mercedes ad when I was only talking about them a few hours ago from the time of the screenshots. I always knew that Facebook looked at your messages but never knew that they would actually be dickheads and try to post some related ads to what you were messaging your friend, to my honest opinion Facebook is now becoming too out of hand interms of privacy. It's kind of like companies are now manipulating you, so they can gain more revenue.

Nick H. Supervisor Posted August 23, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted August 23, 2013 I thought this was already public knowledge? It's the exact same thing that Google does, it scans your messages to provide you with relevant adverts rather than ones that you wouldn't give a hoot about. Ambroos
Ugh. Why is this such a problem? They're already scanning messages for spam filtering anyway, and it's better to get relevant ads than to get stupid stuff. Don't forget, by the way, that it might not be based on your messages. If you visited any Mercedes sites (or pages about Mercedes) that have Facebook OpenGraph enabled it might as well come from there. It's kind of like companies are now manipulating you, so they can gain more revenue. That is sort of the point. szo and Dick Montage 2 Share

Coagulated
I use Facebook, but only as a means of staying in touch with people. No recent photos, no status updates, near enough nothing on there worth knowing about me. If you were to search for my FB without being on my friends list, you'd be hard pushed to know which account was mine.

giantpotato
This isn't just facebook, it's the entire internet. OMG, I was just online banking and now neowin is showing ads from my bank. Neowin, your privacy is getting out of hand, how dare you spy on my banking account. /s
xWhiplash
Why are people so freaked out about these things suddenly? If it was a targeted ad from your messages, it was an automated system, not some individual reading your messages. Amazon does this as well. I was browsing for new computer speakers, and Neowin showed an Amazon ad with....speakers. What is the big deal? You would prefer ads for medicine or stuff you care nothing about (I remember those "You are the 10000th visitor, WINNER!!!!" ads, or ads that make sound)
