Recommended Posts

Ok this might not be the final RTM they could still make a new build and change 16384 to 16385 this could happen due to a last min bug fix. However if all goes to plan this will be the final build.

Expect a flood of news within the next 24hs and possibly a leak. As stated in that e-mail when OEM's get 8.1 they can release it right away if they wish. So if it does not leak by 1st Sep, it will on the 1st.

ok, so the update is supposed to be available the same day OEM's get it.. yet now OEM's can get it to their clientele before the OCT 18th date? anyone have confirmation of this?

so it would appear that we might be getting it early... sweet

Yeah OEM's get it by the 1st Sep (could be even tonight) and they can send it out to peeps before 18th oct. Not only that but that MSDN release date idea sounds like it might be getting reverted meaning people with MSDN might actually get it early after all.

Regardless you will see a ISO floating around on 1st of Sep or before. Willing to bet one will leak within next 48hs.

Ok Small update:

A known Russian forum for leaks have apparently e-mailed some members saying a Russian language x86 & x64 ISO of 8.1 RTM will be available to download today.  (apparently)

Also at 14:00 UTC time Gold/Silver members will be able to download the RTM / Distribute. (apparently)

So for those waiting for a leak, if the above info is accurate (i'm not saying it is100% but it is likely to be) Expect a leak about 6PM / 7PM tonight.

I wont give the forum details out, but what i will say is the source is known to have leaked in the past. (They did leak Windows 7 when it hit RTM.)

Anyway enjoy the RTM tonight hopefully lady's and gent's :)

P.S Don't shoot me if this info is incorrect, i am providing it strictly to spark some excitement and keep people in the know of what is currently known/expected. I will only add information on this post from sources i can hopefully trust.

So, if it does leak are people just going to do a clean install?  I always planned to do a upgrade, specially on my main pc because of all the apps and settings it has that I doin't want to redo.  If so, how will it activate, will it even let you activate??  Will it just take a legit 8.0 key and do a clean install that way?

It will take a legit Windows 8 key and activate yes :) It will also allow you to upgrade not just clean install. Those dirty pirates using KMS however are in for a shock :p Windows 8,1 uses KMS v6 and Windows 8 used KMS v5 so those Auto KMS apps going around won't work as they are all for KMS v5. There are a few methods of activation left for the pirates though but the most simple is crippled for now :) I am sure KMS activation will be back as soon as they get a new KMS key / work on the encryption (Might take a few weeks).

Another plus is Office wont / should not activate also using those KMS things :D.  (allot of people excited for release are gonna be ###### me thinks)

Yeah but I'm just wondering if it will before the official GA date or not?

hmm, good point

though i'd assume 8.1 will probably use the same activation servers so...

in any case i guess we'll find out once it leaks

It will activate for sure on 1st Sep or before OEM's are allowed to send out Windows 8.1 before launch, that would not happen if it was unable to be activated ;). Plus it uses the same keys as Windows 8 its now a new OS remember Windows 8.1 is just an "Update" not a service pack and not an upgrade.

But yeah don't think of 8.1 as a new OS because it is not. Upgrading from 8 to 8.1 will be just like when you upgraded XP to XP sp1 or Windows 7 to Windows 7 SP1. (Although we can't really call this a service pack, it basically is. Instead of Service pack's they are adding new windows versions now.)

Example:

Windows 8.X = Just a major update of Windows 8 They will share the same key as the basic Windows 8.

Windows 9 = New key needed this is a new Windows OS.

Windows 9.X = Same key as Windows 9 just a major update.

We could have many Windows 8's Just like you can have many Service packs. We might get to Windows 8.3 before Windows 9 comes out.

My plans

Use DISM to enable .Net 3 OOTB, Change language and location, install product key.

Install on main client

Install GeForce expierance & GeForce Drivers

Install all applications and configure them

WDS capture image or sysprep.exe and any old disk imageing software

= Windows 8.1 baseline for NVidia Clients, All applications installed and configured OOTB. (Y)

Hope Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 are out early too.

My plan is to upgrade to 8.1 then take the data.dat from that upgraded install to make a custom install DVD. I am using Wndows 8 Pro with a free WMC key. I don't really want to have to install Windows 8.1 with one key and then add features and add my other key each install.

If you make a Windows 8.1 Pro With WMC ISO using your own Data.dat that was activated with the upgrade WMC key you can install using the upgrade key using that custom ISO.

No need to install 8.1 pro then add WMC and no need to faff about downloading / updating or adding keys :) (the only issue is it will only activate after install one that one PC you got data.dat from) if you use this custom ISO on another machine even if you use a legit upgrade WMC key it won't activate (but will let you install it) and you will have to do phone activation.

Plan on making one of these Custom ISO's for each machine :P Will add some drivers and things to them also so there won't be any need to install them after the Windows install is done.

I've really enjoyed Windows 8.1. The small improvements have made a huge difference for me. Having the same background in modern UI and desktop was good. Resizable tiles (at least having more options) was absolutely vital. And boot to desktop. The combination of these things has made Windows 8.1, from a decent OS to a good OS.

I think it still has flaws, like why the ###### isn't their a windows update link in the power menu (accessed from right clicking the start button), why do i have to right click that action centre icon. This bugs the hell outta me coz its so mind bogglingly obvious (anyone know any tweaks for this)? I never use modern apps but I absolutely love having the modern UI start because, rather than having a start button, I've customized things to like browser, security stuff, etc etc. I boot to desktop and also have the same icons pinned to my taskbar so its all good. Anyhow, I prefer Windows 8 to Windows 7. Just for the modern UI start.

Stop being so anal geez! Nothing wrong with users of neowin downloading the RTM leak...Forget MS.. I rather download on my terms and not wait an extra month for nothing!

Yep nothing wrong with wanting it early. It's nice especially with a new operating system (I know this is not) it gives me time to test it out, make sure everything all works and learn all the tips and trick to it before general release. This is a heads up when the general release happens as I can advise customers better not only that but i can get some machines ready before general release. Better to have a machine ready to sell on day #1 of release and all tested than to wait for release and install / configure it and sell it a few days after. Time is money...

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
