Hi!

 

I want to upgrade from Windows 8 Pro x64 to Windows 8.1 Pro x64 using the ISO file (burned out to DVD).

I start the setup.exe under Windows, but I don't have the option to keep my settings, application and files, only the files, or keep nothing.

 

I found the following info:
If you use the ISO file, you can only make a clean install, or you can keep your personal files, that's all.
If you want to keep your settings, apps and personalizations, you (will) have to make the upgrade from Microsoft Store - as soon as it will be available.

And yeah, it's a shame, but I can't upgrade my Windows 8 x64 Pro installation to the same version of 8.1... only to make a clean install, losing all of my settings and currently used apps. (Makes no sense for me...)

 

Do you have experience about it? How can I make the upgrade keeping my applications and settings, too?

 

I have the Windows 8 installation on a 128GB SSD drive, and less than 50% percent is available. Can it cause the problem?

 

How can I solve this issue?

just out of curiosity why did you burn a dvd when you can mount the iso image in windows, it's faster for starters.  Just curious.  Did you make any changes to the dvd in any way?

 

what's the message that comes up? , a screenshot would be nice  :)

I burned it out, because first I wanted to boot from it and make the upgrade in this way. But then I decided to mount the ISO and make it in this way (just as you wrote), but it didn't work.

(Yes, next time I will write down all these details :-) )

 

I don't have a screenshot right now, but it's the following screen, but without the first (and for me the most important) possibilty:

So I have:

- Keep personal files only

- Nothing.

 

But I need the first option. From Windows 8 to 8.1. Same architecture, same version (Pro). Shouldn't be so hard... :-)

AFAIK upgrading from install media is not supported and not possible (at present, most likely someone will work out how to do it but it won't be official/supported). You will have to wait until October 17th/18th like everyone else or do a clean install if you want to get 8.1

That's what I found also. But than I recieved a reply:

Not true, you can upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1 without losing anything. That's what I did on 2 machines.

Are you using Pro with WMC? I heard that this version couldn't be upgraded using the 8.1 iso.

After a headache going from 8.1 preview to 8.1 RTM I did a clean install of 8 and then upgraded from the ISO to 8.1.  Then post-install I was able to activate with my Windows 8 Pro upgrade key and then install and activate the Media Center add-on.  It gave me the option to keep my programs and settings both, so I don't think using the ISO was your problem dude.

Well, I tried out this solution:

"That being said, you can upgrade to Windows 7 using the normal upgrade route whether your Windows Vista is in English or not since your Windows Vista Ultimate in German is just the English version with the language pack installed. Before upgrading, open the Change display language item in the Control Panel and switch your display language back to English. Then switch to the Administrative tab, and use the Copy Settings button to copy the language setting to the SYSTEM and DEFAULT accounts. Windows 7 will then proceed to upgrade without complaining."

 

But the result is the same. Shame. :-/

That's really sad. I tried out the following things but without any success:

- Disabling ESET Smart Security

- I have a second disk in the machine. I took it to offline state.

- 50% of the Windows-driver is free.

 

I'm still searching, but ...

You'll need a German 8.1 iso or an iso with the German language packed slipstreamed. Upgrading using the the English version cannot be used if you're using another locale.

      So after some fiddling I was able to get it to run at a pretty stable 30FPS. I'm slightly surprised about how much fiddling I had to do to get there though given what I thought was reasonable hardware: Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics Memory: 16 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon 780M Graphics Graphics Processor 2: AMD Radeon RX 7700S I think I could do it better if I use Linux rather than Windows, Windows RAM usage is stupid without stripping the system down. But once I got it working in a reasonable state, it was so awesome! I felt like a new Bond! If anyone has any advice to get things going a bit smoother FPS-wise, I'd appreciate it.
