Sick of the crashes, please help!

generic ram is always a killer. do yourself a favor and get something branded.

I just wanted to thank all of you for all your help. My system has been up for 3 days now withotu a single crash since i took that 512 chip out. So, it's time to by myself a new 512 chip. :)

just a quick question, could it have been the actual board doing this, the 1 slot for my ram, or would all of you agree i just had bad RAM?

what you could also do, just to confirm, ir put just the bad stick in, and see if you would get the crashes

if you do, then the stick is to blame, as yoususpect

also, try to put the good stick in both slots, and see it the system is stable

it could be the slot, but it's unlikely. try the 512 stick in a different slot, replace different ram sticks, just to make sure you have really found the problem...

I am glad to hear you got the machine working. I just got here a little too late. I was going to suggest doing a new install of everything, and start with not many peripherals connected. But I am glad to hear you found your problem. without having to go through all the rebuilding process.

HOWEVER, I would strongly recommend getting name brand memory and getting the SAME brand memory. You said it yourself, you had a generic and a samsung. It may have been the generics fault, it may have been the memroy slots fault, and it may have been a combination of two types of memory fault. Do you self a favor, get the same type of memory as your other stick!
