European broadband issues delaying PS4 Gaikai rollout

Recommended Posts

Apparently they have no timeline for it which is a very similar situation that happened with psn in Europe.

Quoted Article from Joystiq

"PlayStation games streaming is due sometime in 2014 here in North America, but for our friends across the pond, it's a more problematic affair due to the issues surrounding broadband internet availability in Europe. SCEE President and CEO Jim Ryan told Edgeduring Gamescom that Sony "doesn't yet have a timeline" for rolling out PlayStation cloud services to Europe.

"So the plan is to begin with North America next year and the plan is to provide a streaming service that will allow for PS3 content initially to be streamed to firstly PS4, then PS Vita and then PS3," Ryan said. "And so that will happen in 2014 in North America initially. Now ? and I touched upon these issues of broadband in Europe during the presentation ? Europe is of course on the roadmap for that service to be deployed at some point in the future, but for reasons outside of our control we don't yet have a timeline for it. So at a show which is now pretty global in its reach but primarily aimed at a European audience, we didn't really want to start talking about the virtues of this great cloud-based service without knowing exactly when it'll come to Europe."

PlayStation cloud services will be powered by Gaikai, which Sony acquired in 2012 for $380 million. Gaikai, which has been around since late 2008, was founded by iconic game developer David Perry, the founder of Shiny Entertainment and creator of such beloved games as Earthworm Jim and MDK."

But can Gaikai play Earthworm Jim and MDK?

Very dissapointing Sony, broadband isnt an issue. Even Eastern Europe ranks in the tops of broadband speeds and % of people connected with broadband. And those people didnt know what an internet was a decade ago.

Broadband is MUCH less distributed in the US of A then it is in Europe, poor excuse.

Wikipedia says Gaikai's HQ is in California, maybe its not our European broadband that's the issue.. maybe its high international-ping, from what I know of these kind of services need a very low delay to be even playable.

My guess is that they need time to set up enough servers for Europe and are blaming our broadband in the meantime.

They're working with European ISPs to implement traffic shaping. You'll be able to pay for a PS4 internet package where gaming traffic has higher priority.

Not hard to believe. This is going to be an on going issue for the consoles and other multimedia services.

Twice as bad if you take them up on the rumoured Virgin Media partnership. No thank you, I like a working connection

    • Autonomous post-training loop placed 8th of 4,000 and then rewrote its own evaluation strategy. An autonomous AI system built by researchers at Amazon's A-EVO-Lab completed a full post-training run on a 30 billion parameter NVIDIA Nemotron model — with no human in the loop, across four rounds running over multiple weeks — and then did something its designers had not planned for: it detected that its own internal evaluation metric had become misleading and redesigned the search strategy it was using to improve itself. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319123/20260626/nvidia-ai-trained-itself-30b-model-corrected-its-own-broken-metric-mid-run.htm

    • If Ford would stop hiring SUITS to run the company, and put CAR GUYS back in charge perhaps they could do better. Heck, the only CAR they produce today is the Mustang. Hey Ford! Not everyone needs/wants an overpriced SUV or pickup truck that is so tall you have to have a step ladder to get in and out of it.
    • Amazing how some will just jump all over something. Probably the same people that thought Musk was a "tech god" before he saddled up with "bad orange man". Before, they worshiped at his feet, including a lot of so called hollywood types. Now, because he fell off the plantation truck, they toss him under the bus.
