I thought I would round up the info on this game in one thread since its kind of spread out over a few threads.  So we can just share whatever new info comes out in this thread.

So how about a little rundown on the details around this game:

Launch Roster:

Jago

Sabrewulf

Chief Thunder

Glacius

Sadira (brand new character)

Orchid

Two additional characters will be added soon after launch, but those have not been announced.  Also, these two additional fighters will be bundled with the complete story mode. The 8 total characters are considered season 1.  Next year, a second season of 8 more characters will be released and then that can go into a third season the following year.

So then the pricing:

$20 gets you the entire game which includes the Season 1 roster

$40 gets you the whole game, plus extras such as:

---Killer Instinct 1 & 2 skins/costumes for all characters

---Additional costumes and other character alterations

---A complete port of Killer Instinct 1

If you would prefer to buy a single character or two, you also have the option of adding characters to the free demo, which already includes Jago.  Each character will cost $5.

The latest news was the confirmation of Orchid for the first season roster (At the end of the Sadira combo trailer):

I've been following the developer videos and they are definitely working hard to get each character working as well as possible, not to mention working with the fighting game community for testing. Its shaping up to be a great release, hopefully it does well so we see continued support.

I think this game looks great, though I'm past my old fighter days so I don't play them anymore.   It's still interesting to see how this comes out because fans have wanted a new KI for so long.

Here is a new video that goes into the details around how the training mode (Called Dojo Mode) will work:

It looks like DH is working its butt off to create an in depth tutorial, certainly deeper than most other fighting games. Skullgirls is the only other one with an in depth turtorial that I can think of.

  • 4 weeks later...

I wonder if they are going to include the finishing move where Orchid flashes her ###### and makes the opponent have a heart attack. They better.... For nostalgic reasons, of course.   :pinch:

It would be strange if in a time when gamers are all a lot older the devs wouldn't add something like that because they would consider it to be too risqu? or crude.

I like this approach & pricing they've come up with, it is a bit more of an interesting way to sell content. Whether it works or not, idk, but it will be fun to observe.

Yeah, I think they went this way because MS was not sure just how much interest there still is for the franchise.  Sure, people have asked for it, but how many will actually buy it.

I hope people support this game and buy it if they think it looks good.  That's the only thing that will show MS that its an IP worth preserving.

Alright, I'm back with another video.

This one is not about KI so much as its about the X1 controller.  Max gives his impressions of using the X1 controller with KI,  Outside of a strange issue with the shoulder buttons, he was fairly shocked by how good of a controller it will be for fighting games.  The d-pad issue is no more.

Played it today!        The game is great, just as I wanted.

However xbox controller is TINY!!!      I loved it at first, but after ten minutes I realized that my fingers are way too long for it, and I have to hold it weird and my hands were tired.

Amazing controller, yes, but only for those who dont have longer fingers!

The double helix guys have mentioned a bit more info on how things will be going after launch.

It looks like Spinal will be added no later than Janurary and Fulgor will be no later than March.  That also means that the story mode will be added when Fulgor is added.  Apparently, the story mode will incorporate the season 1 roster, so that's why it will come with the last character for season 1.

They have also been talking a lot about season 2, so that looks like a done deal at this point.  That would be another 8 characters.

This game looks great, we'll know if it does well if they add it to something like EVO later on.    At this point, and with the combo fest that this can be I wouldn't be surprised if it does make it in.

Xbox One's Killer Instinct to get Arcade mode after launch

by John Callaham

The Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct will become available for download November 22nd with six characters to play for the revival of the fighting game series from developers Rare and Double Helix. One character will be released for free while the other five will cost money. Microsoft will also launch two more characters after the initial release for "Season 1" of the game.

However, hardcore fighting game fans will have to wait to get a traditional single player Arcade mode for Killer Instinct. In a chat on the Official Xbox Magazine site, game designer Daniel Fornace confirmed that the Arcade mode would be released after the final two characters become available in the game.

There will, however, be an infinite Survival mode for players to try out for launch. Fornace states:

The way it works is you pick a difficulty and you go in, and you're basically playing a long chain, and after each match you regenerate health, but as you go on you generate less and less, and even if you do beginner difficulty, as you get to the higher numbers the CPU does start getting tougher, so you'll still hit a limit. You set your difficulty to where you're at - so if you set it to Champion it'll start hard and get even worse.

There will of course be local and online multiplayer matches for Killer Instinct, along with a "Dojo" tutorial mode.

    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.
