The release of DriveClub is officially delayed on PlayStation 4 despite initially being included in the system's North American launch lineup, it was confirmed in a post by President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida.

The launch of both DriveClub and DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition will now be pushed to early 2014, "in order [for Evolution Studios] to deliver on their vision," wrote Yoshida.

DriveClub will still be available as part of the Instant Game Collection once released; however, at the launch of the PS4 the game will be replaced by surreal vaudevillian title Contrast from Compulsion Games as a free title on the Instant Game Collection for PlayStation Plus members.

"We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when DriveClub launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision. And PlayStation 4 gamers will have no shortage of titles to play this year," Yoshida continued.

"The extra time we're giving the team means the visuals and overall experience are only going to get better. We can assure you that it will be worth the wait."

hmm, fewer and fewer launch games.. makes my wallet happier.  Especially with christmas coming, I'd ###### a few people off if I told them I couldn't get the presents because I bought games for my PS4.

That's the wrong way to look at it! :D  You want the games to launch as early as possible so by the time you're ready to buy they may be discounted or available used!  That makes my wallet happier. :present:

Fair enough, though with my PS4 I am going to be watching the deal sites and such a lot for my game purchases.  If I can save 10$ on every game I buy.. I'd be pretty happy.

Works for non multiplayer games, but for multiplayer games it has another side effect.

Either

1. everyone's done playing by the time you get it

2. everyone is awesome at it by the time you play it.

alternatively a bit of both :)

Sucks :( It played well at Eurogamer but it did seem like it needed some more time. Looks stunning, but I guess they might push for 60FPS. Glad to see it will still be offered free through PS Plus.

It's got to be disappointing for those looking forward to this but I guess they still have some issues they want to fix. Still, it's better to release a fully working product then something they are constantly patching and trying to catch up on the issues.

Well it sucks for the launch lineup, but I would much rather have it be delayed and then actually turn out to be good.

Is it just me, or does it seem like this new generation of consoles is being rushed? I mean its hard to believe, but first we hear about features that both the X1 and PS4 will not have ready at launch, and then both will be pushing day one updates to the OS because that isn't quite ready. On top of all of that, we start hearing about games being delayed as we get closer to launch.

A lot of rush to meet the launch dates.

Weren't most of the features Xbox axed because of the negative feedback?

Parts of them were, but I think of couple of them were due at launch and then delayed.

I remember they were delaying the usage of real names on Live.  Then there was the general delay in launch for certain countries due to localization issues.  Then of course there was the Watch Dogs delay.

Yeah.  Also, you might consider adding Youtube support later to the Game DVR feature to be a delay.

Its just weird that everyone seems to be delaying something.

    • Payday TWO!! Is 13 years old man I feel old - I remember trying it out and if I did not know I would say 5-6 years ago or something
    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
