Stop using Windows Update!

I found out a new way to update: since AP includes all kinds of good registry tweaks, PowerToys, and support-only/hard-to-find/not-on-WU updates, I've been updating via AP! When AP December comes out, where it can detect previous patches, I'll just install it. :p

One thing: Make sure you detect whether the rollup is needed when scanning for already installed updates. Check for both the rollup and it's constituent updates. If one of the those two is found, deselect the rollup. :D

Ahem, as Spyder said, to each their own. I'm not forcing anyone to use this, and if anyone wants to use it instead of Windows Update, then they can (hense the monthly updates). If anyone would rather stick with Windows Update, so be it. :) I am glad you like it so much though, memodude. :D

@memodude - Yes, it will check for the Rollup, but not the individual updates, for, just like Windows Update, even if you have them all, it will ask you to install the rollup. :)

Remember kids, you only need to download the 180 MB file once. ;) But yeah, for the most part it's for new installs (or just if you know people on dial-up and you're on cable). But each month we release small update packs that will add-in the newest Updates, so that's a good thing at least. :yes:

this thread title should be renamed and/or closed as this thread is just a shameful plug for AutoPatcher.

when i saw the thread title it made it look like windows update was causing some sort of problem or had a virus or had a privacy breach or something.

and i STILL refuse to use autopatcher until an express installer comes out, but i won't hold my breath.

you realize that this thread is posted in the Autopatcher forum right? Its a neowin sponsored program, so I don't see how it could be a shameful plug.

@mrdan1286 - Actually I was going to rename it at first, but nothing looked right (and plus, it has a nice ring to it). Also Spyder is right, it is a Neowin Sponsored Program. :) You can refuse to use it. That's your right. I don't mind. But I'm not going to stop people from making threads that say THEY want to use it. :)

To be honest, no offence to the makers of Auto Patcher, but i prefer Windows Update as well.

I download the individual updates and install them when installing the system. Takes maybe 10 mins in total to install and total space on disk used for my hotfixes, DX9, regtweaks, Powertoys is 75mb.

Compare that to Auto Patcher 190mb and up to 30 - 45mins to install on different systems.

Dont get me wrong, i think its a great idea and alot of people appreciate it. I myself prefer only what i need, Windows Update and individual hotfixes and Microsoft Rollout Packages(Q826939) and of course official service packs(i know AP is not a service pack)

Very well said. To clarify what I've said before, this started as mainly a project for people who have to update lots of systems, but it's also good for those who don't go to Windows Update.

But I'm glad you like the program (or at least the idea of it), and even though it's not a Service Pack, I'd like to think it's about as close as you can come to having one until Microsoft releases SP2. :D

hehe...most likely M$ will find an excuse to seu (or however this is spelled) u and then steal the source code of the program to use it themselves :p

M$ allways want more money and M$ doesn't like it if some1 else then M$ is smart enough to fix a big problem that they did not handle :p :p

(i personally think the updates-after-fresh-install-procedure is a major problem from M$ :p)

that's why i love FlishFun and Raptor for solving this problem with AP :)
