Coolest Laptop Bag/Backpack

Recommended Posts

I thought about where to ask this, and thought HH was the most appropriate - especially because I wanted the opinions of my fellow computer nerds (a badge of honor) not the people who come to neowin and talk politics or cars, or something other than computers.

Who makes some really cool, nice backpacks/laptop bags/messenger bags ?

I have looked @ everything from ASUS, Alienware, to Oakley to Saddleback Leather Company.

Here is a sample of ones I thought were cool, but ultimately decided to wait and keep looking:

Oakley:

Saddleback:

The Indiana Jones-looking Saddleback is handmade, so it is much more costly and would be the most costy I would consider.

But it seams the bulk are from $75 to $150 -

Any help would be appreciated, I ordered my new laptop for work today, and need to find a bag quick.

Thank You -

My favorite are laptop backpacks with the side zippers for the laptop. That way, you can be sure you'll forget to zip the backpack... And then the laptop will fall out of the backpack, tumble down a stair well, and shatter on the marble floor in the middle of a compass pattern pointing the way to Jerusalem...  :innocent:

Those ECBC bags look well-made.

I cant decide between messenger bag & backpack.

As far as the Saddleback - I am worried that is a big red flag that says "take me !! even if Im empty its still $600 !!!"

Ultimately, I just want something worthy of the salty new ThinkPad T430 they bought me  :)

It was telling you to pray for a better laptop :)  (and bag)

Hello,

Okay, given the weight of all gaming laptops, I think you would be best off with a backpack. This allows you to distribute the weight of the heavy laptop, along with accessories that will make their way into the backpack, such as cables, USB flash drives, etc., evenly across your shoulders and back, as opposed to having it hanging over just one shoulder/side, which is what a notebook bag does.

Right now, I have a Tumi Alpha for my primary laptop (ThinkPad W510).  It is okay, but I probably would not buy one again now that Tumi no longe offers a lifetime warranty.  I have bought a few Briggs & Riley bags for tablets, subnotes and the like and been very happy with those.

If you would like to do some comparison shopping, eBags is a great site to use, even if you don't buy from them.

Anyways, hope this is of of use/help to you.

Actually, I have a T430 which is not real heavy.  I looked @ the Osprey Momentum on eBags but didnt think the bottom was well padded.

I like that Tumi Alpha.  Do you think it is worth $450, even though it is not leather ?

I understand it isnt a lifetime warranty, but those never interest me for things like this.  In a year or 2 I will have something else....

Hello,

I got the Tumi bag at a 50% discount, which at that point was a reasonable price.  The workmanship on the bag is excellent, but given that there are so many other quality manufacturers out there, it's hard (for me, at least) to justify that kind of expense for a bag which does not have a lifetime warranty.

Here are a few other manufacturers you might want to look at as well:

5.11 Tactical

Alite Designs

Black Diamond

Blackhawk

BlackWolf

Brenthaven

Chrome Industries

Condor Outdoor Products

Crumpler

Deuter

Domke Bags

Eagle Creek

EastPak

Everki

Goruck

Hazard4

Incase

ILE Equipment

Jansport

Kriega

Maxpedition

MEC

Nomadic (their US distributor; company is actually located in Japan)

North Face

Ogio

Osprey

Outdoor Research

Pelican

Red Oxx

Slappa

STM Bags

Targus

Trager USA (a reseller; their main site is down right now)

Tilley

Tom Bihn

Travelpro

Urban Tool

Victorinox

Wenger

Hopefully, you will be able to find a backpack suitable for your T430.

Wow - what a great list Gorestsky - thanks buddy.  There must be 20 companies in there with some seriously cool stuff.

I was told there was a delay on my Alienware backpack - so maybe I'll take that as a sign that I should look @ something else.

I think I am just looking for something different than what everyone else has, something of high quality, high utility - but dont want to pay a ton.

I am thinking $150 @ the most.  The Oakley Kitchen sink is $200 - but that thing is too big anyway

I had some Best Buy Rewards, needed a medium-sized bag for my Yoga 2 Pro and, ultimately, chose the Ogio Newt II Mono Sling Bag:

OGIO-Newt-II-Mono-15in-Black-MLB15425401

But, as part of looking, I looked over the Thule TCBP-117 Crossover Backpack in the store, which is quite large and would hold almost any size laptop, by my reckoning:

In the near future, I may get one of these for travel.  It has a lot of handy features including a protected pocket on the top for sunglasses, handles on both ends and straps to cinch it more flat, if needed.  The texture & color are far better in person and the picture doesn't do it justice...

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair
    • If he hasn't been able to figure that out, then why is he obsessed with tariffs? Because that's one of the most prominent tools to level the playing field when you have high cost of labor.
    • Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5102558, KB5095615 Setup and Recovery updates by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates. For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery process in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, which are also called Safe OS updates. The dynamic updates also affect the Setup file binaries in the form of Setup updates. These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2. This time both recovery and setup updates were released for Windows 11. The company writes: "KB5095186: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 26H1: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.28000.2335. KB5102558: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to Windows setup binaries or any files that setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows 11, version 25H2. KB5095615: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.26100.8737." Microsoft notes that both the Recovery and Setup updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via the Windows Update channel.
