The Neowin Digital Photo Gallery

Macro is usually for close ups like you mentioned. You are the one who decides whether you need it or not. The G5 is a manual capable digicam so its up to you. Flowers, face close ups, coins, anything. Usually there is a limit on how far you must be from the subject; this varies from every camera.

Thanks, I think I was just trying to figure out what's the difference between normal zoom versus macro as I have never used macro before even on a film SLR camera.

Hi Pppl!

I am on the verge to make the dive and get a digital camera myself in the next two weeks. I have been following this post since the time when Keldyn got his digicam and always wanted to buy one myself. I have narrowed my choice to either the Canon A70 or the Canon A80. The Canon A80 will cost me about INR 19000 (43INR = 1USD) and the Canon A70 costs me about INR 15000. I wanted some advice on which to get. Is there a HUGE difference in .8 Mega Pixels? Can i have some sample images taken at those resolutions to compare. I seem to like the sviwel LCD that the A80 has but am somewhat hesitant to get the A80 for that only. Looking at Dazzla's images taken with an A70 makes me feel that about 80$ extra for the A80 is somewhat foolish.

What do the experts in here have to say about this? Any advice will be appreciated before I finally make the dip.

Thanks

Sumit

I was in the same boat, except the price difference was even smaller. Looking back I still don't know what I would have got but like the tech lust that most of us have got once you get one you want better :D Saying that I'm really satisfied with it and would probably have gone with the same choice. With the money you save you can grab some memory, charger and batteries, case for the camera etc.

Hmmmm,

Thats exactly what I was thinking. But the bug in me says A80...A80 and I have to bang my head with a pan to keep the bug silent :p

So what you are saying is that the .8 MP will make hardly any difference and that the sviwel LCD can be compromised with?

Anyone else has any other comment?

Just retuned from Rome. Shot taken at St. Peter's Basilica (Canon G3)

that, is an awesome picture. ive got a similar one i took on a 35mm when i visited rome.. that looks brilliant though.. i wish i had a digital camera back then

has this turned into a 'cat' thread? or does it still have VARIETY???

there is quite a bit of variety in this thread. some of us like to photograph our kitties, doggies, birdies, reptiles, rodents...all are as camera-worthy as scenery and kids

ya she was looking around here (20 mins from Detroit) and there are places that carry them but they arent getting shipments of them. She looked online and they are all out too or they are like 50$ with 50$ shipping charge and she wont pay for that. I will have to take a picture of her rig that she has set up for them. I think it looks pretty sweet! ill take the picture tomorrow when im out of school

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
