I am having a problem pinging my computers. They are hooked up on a router, and share an internet connection through the router. I can ping both computers from the one upstairs, but from my main one down here, I can only ping itself, I cannot ping the other one upstairs. I just disabled the WinXP firewall on both, and stil the same problem. Anyone have any suggestions on what could be happening???? Thnx, plz anything will help!!! Its really needed...

This is the main comptuer thats not working properly...and I am not using a VPN right now, I was trying to do that before to connect to my school, but it didnt work so i disconnected from the VPN, and unless theres a hidden form of VPN, i do not believe its behind one.

Hm, well the TCP/IP config looks correct, the only fishy thing is the VPN.

Some VPN clients will firewall a connection, allowing through only the encapsulated+encrypted data (ie: on one port). This may be happening, which would explain why you could ping out from 25, but not back in (stateful awareness).

I'd try removing the VPN client.

Edit: The pings are going the wrong way for that theory, but I'd still try ripping off the vpn client.

Check your network protocols and see if there is anything out of the ordinary running. besides .....

If that doesn't help you should try running msconfig and going to the startup tab and uncheck all the boxes .... just remember which ones you unchecked. Reboot and try again
