Upcoming AAA Ubisoft Title: 1080p on PS4 / Sub 1080p on Xbox One

Recommended Posts

Industry insider suggests that a soon to be released Ubisoft game will be at a lower resolution on Xbox One than it is on PS4.

Industry insider Ahsan Rasheed, otherwise known as Thuway, has said that a soon to be released Ubisoft game is set to run at different resolutions on PS4 and Xbox One.

"Get your hats ready, Resolution-Gate coming to a Ubisoft game near you,"

The resolutiongate reference pertains to multiple instances of multiplatform games that run at higher resolutions on PS4 than they do on Xbox One.

News that Call of Duty would run at a native 1080p on PS4 and 720p on Xbox One kicked off the debate on resolution difference on PS4 and Xbox One and the degree to which these differences matter.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is the latest game to be embroiled in arguments around the relative power of the PS4 and Xbox One after it was revealed that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition runs at 60fps on the PS4 and 30fps on the Xbox One.

- I am not surprised by this considering other Ubisoft titles like Assassins Creed already run on lower resolution on the Xbox One than the PS4 and also every other multiplatform game except sports and racing games.

Can we stop posting these 720p vs 1080p threads? I think we've had enough of these.

Nope.  I like seeing these.  Wondering when there will be 1080 1080 on a third party cross platform game, or when it will be common.  Don't like em? Don't read em.

Well considering the topic is only a rumor, does this really add anything to the discussion?

Can we have a xbox vs ps4 vs pc comparison then? I like to run my games at 2560x1600. Resolution seems to be so important, right?

No, I personally like knowing which games I am interested in not making what I feel is next gen.  So then I can feel cheated by thinking I bought the wrong next gen system.

1080 is NOT new.  It's been out for years.   The xbox one is a NEXT GEN system.  It should be able to do 1080.  If not then they shouldn't have released it.  I think it's honestly ridiculous that they cannot do it.

If I am paying a ridiculous amount for this system, extra controller, xbox live, and games, I want it to be a good investment.   It so far isn't living up to next gen.

It's honestly laughable, I am not a sony fan boy at all, the last playstation I played was the ps2 when it first came out and I never played the ps 3.  But the fact that theirs is doing native 1080 and 60fps right away, I hope Microsoft and the Game devs, eat it. They need have games that compete 1/1 or very close to it.

BF for example, 720p TV the game looks great.   BF on a 1080, Looks like complete ######. I hate it.

Just my opinion anyways.

A) Where does it even mention 720p?

B) Where does it even mention Watch Dogs?
C) These 'insider' rumours are becoming beyond a joke and have hardly been right and often are common speculation

run at a native 1080p while 720p.... the way this is written it seems to indicate 1080 is native and 720 is not ... both is wrong... Completely wrong use of the word native.

Resolution has nothign to do with generation this or that.

To me a consumer, it has everything to do with it.  Next gen to me is a product that can do more stuff than the previous product and it can do stuff better.   Next gen is new tech. New tech should be able to do old tech.

I think it's laughable that they cant do it.  It irritates me.  Maybe in years they'll figure out a way to do it.

As for the rumour, it could be 900p, it's quite clear the message is simply less than 1080p, not confirming 720p. Since AC4 is 900p on One, 1080p on PS4, I'm going to guess 900p myself. I know it's open world, but 720p would just be embarrassing.

They can do it though.  It's been done already.

Also can I say generally that this whole fad of attaching -gate to the ends of words needs to die?  It just makes everything sound silly.

hmm, funny my mates dad who owns a papershop that stocks game magazines says it runs at 4k on the XB1. :/

I don't know what to believe.

Quick, go make a thread about it.

The list of 720 games are bigger than the list of 1080 games. It has been done yes, only of a few games. The bigger players game wise, (BF, Titan Fall for example) These are big players. They should be 1080 and their not.

Aah Thuway the "insider" who can't post this on NeoGAF because he has no source and resorts to twitter.

I am still waiting for someone to start a controller-gate thread for shoddy quality PS4 controller.

You can do that for $400? Please tell me your secret.

Regardless, this is a rumor at best so why even make a thread about it. It's not even that CLEAR of a rumor either. If it's 100% confirmed, then sure we need to talk about it because we should all be informed before making a purhcase. 720p is today's market is unacceptable.

Who doesn't have a TV? :P

Back to the topic, who really thinks a game like this would have equal parity anyway? It's been delayed, it's from Ubisoft who's first effort on consoles was 900p on One, 1080p on PS4 (AC4) and it's the most taxing kind of game, open world. Tomb Raider has large open plains, but it's not really open world.

The only open world game coming before Watch Dogs for PS4 is inFamous, and it's doing 1080p/30FPS. What does that mean? Not that much in that it's a different developer, but it's an open world game running 1080p nevertheless.

Sure, I don't see why not.  Though the current "War" is between the ps4 and xbone not the pc, but feel free.. I mean I've read about some games being capped at 30fps on pc (NFS Rivals).

Thank you.  720P in todays market is unacceptable indeed.

I think watch dogs will be quite a demanding game so its not surprising the X1 cant do it at 1080p just yet. Give it 2-3 years and itll be equal if not slightly lower than the PS4, PS4 was designed to give good looking games now rather than having devs take 3 or so years to learn how to get the most out of an X1 style architecture and thats from Mark Cerny himself - Road to PS4 video

still depends on how the upscaler works if its good enough to make it look as good as say a PS4 version but think watch dogs maybe 900p on X1.  Even if both consoles look the same in the game people will still moan.

If people want to post rumors as if they are news, so be it, but is it wrong to ask the OP to use a correct title? It does not mention 720p or the name of the game, so why have words been added? It just looks like it was done for effect.

If you like reading about that stuff as part of the console war rubbish, have fun wading through the crap. Are you trying to say you like the flaming and console wars? That's much different than wanting info about games, which is what I like.

Name some 720 games then... or are you simply equalling sub 1080 with 720...

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices. • I did test it a month or so back, but ... the results I expect to be on the first page are not there.
    • Neowin is saying these are good prices? Thats crazy. As others have said they are just ######. Time for big tech to bring down the prices for real not this fake crap.
    • The iFlyTek AINote 2 is among the thinnest E-Ink tablets. It has an EMR stylus, a built-in fingerprint reader, and plenty of built-in AI features. You had me until "and plenty of built-in AI features." That and any company that still does the iProduct naming trope is an immediate pass. It suggests the company isn't very imaginative or creative and is trying to piggyback off another company's success. Extremely lame. Also kind of expensive. Better choices at lower prices out there.
