Xbox One gets a price cut in the United Kingdom, drops to ?409.99

Xbox One topped the sales charts in December with 908,000 units, but it appears to be a good thing if you're one of those people who didn't manage to snag a console yet. If you're based in the UK, you will be in luck as a few retailers, including Zavvi and The Hut, have dropped the price of the Xbox One to ?409.99. This is ?20 less than the official price offered at the Microsoft Store UK.

Obviously, this may not be a very big discount, but considering that it's been a few months since Microsoft took the wraps of its next-generation gaming console, it is still a decent discount for those who want to save every single bit of their hard-earned cash. The offer posted on both retailers doesn't include any games, so you have to get on with the purchase or choose an Xbox One bundle that comes with a few games. Microsoft and several other retailers are offering various bundles that comes with the console as well as addictive games.

If you're fine without the bundle and want to get the games separately, it's your choice. Simply head over to Zavvi or The Hut to get your hands-on the console. Also let us know if you find a discount on the Xbox One at any other retailer, including the game bundles, using the comments below.

This is simply a retailer specific drop, not exactly a price cut...

Zavvi/The Hut uses the same distributors, prices are often identical across the sites.

why does the news anymore run with a sale price at a specific retailer as a company is cutting prices OMG its all over now! BS they do now days... just because one places put something on sale doesn't mean 1) MS is failing and 2) Mean it's a system wide price cut...

Just so I'm sure, is that a price cut of about ?30? Although considering that Titanfall looks to be going for about ?40 on its own I guess that's an overall saving of ?70? When I look at it like that it seems more appealing for customers. And with the current pricing for a PS4 and a game being somewhere between ?389 and ?480 (wow, that's quite a range...) it seems even better for those that are torn between which console to get.

Note: The prices I mentioned above are from Amazon.co.uk.

Losing the UK at launch was a sore loss for MS (with the XB1 releasing first), especially after the 360's success. This was needed, but I'm sure the early adopters will be a little butthurt.

Its expected, but it would be better if they put in a physical copy. It needs up to 40GB for digital.

Fifa or Forza were offered at launch, so this is only ?30 off. Not nearly enough imo.

Dont forget that the original Xbox saw its price slashed by ?100 (from ?300 to ?199) only one month after launch so early adopters can hardly feel too miffed.

I think it'll be a download code. Just from the size of the box, I'm not sure it could include a DVD box without changing the design. But I agree, it's really annoying it's not a physical copy. Only saving grace from my X1 nightmare was I got a physical copy of Forza in the end. Couldn't care less if Fifa was digital :P

It is definitely a download code.

By the way noticed this in the American PR, so no luck for the states long term just now,

Of course, this is an incredible deal, only offered to celebrate the launch of Titanfall, for a limited time.

Hope there is some damage control for early adopters in UK. I fancy a free game :p

It's not so much the console price difference of ?30, but the RRP of the actual games. Say you bought the console at ?429, you now have to shell out ?42 for Titanfall - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Arts-Titanfall-Xbox-One/dp/B00D781WO0 I hate the game prices at the start of a generation.

?399 vs ?471.

They could give all early adopters a discount on a digital copy of Titanfall, maybe 50% off? What is the digital price anyway? Probably ?54.99, maybe ?49.99? (?54.99 here - http://www.titanfall.com/buy)

That's just the market taking advantage while they can. You have a handful of games worth buying with nothing on the calendar for months. Jack the price and rip everyone off is their intentions (N) I won't be buying any titles new until we see the old RRPs return.

Microsoft could definitely win a lot of hearts back with a free game though. 50% isn't really gonna cut it for me personally, I'm still paying out more when I've been screwed by an early price drop.

Well for now at least, seems like MS is willing to cut prices in ways that dont include removing anything from the package. Bundling games or simply cutting the price are in use at the moment.

Yup, puts them in the same boat as Sony with losing money. Definitely makes the price war more interesting :P Wonder if it will be enough though :iiam:

GAME will probably refuse to sell the XB1 at ?399.99

Wait, I thought Sony was making a small profit on the ps4 just as MS was on the X1?

As far as it being enough, probably not.

I would say that Microsoft owes nothing to people that bought the console before the price drop. Potential price drops are just another risk that the early adopters choose to accept in order to have the console earlier.

You're right they don't owe them anything, but they'll face massive criticism if they don't.

I'm not too fussed, got a launch edition with FIFA, shortly after Dead Rising 3 (issue with my disc drive) and then a month of Live thrown in for good measure. If they do a bonus  (Y)

They did it with the original Xbox. You got a choice of games IIRC, granted the cut was bigger.

    • This new cabinet design lets you run AMD, Intel, and Nvidia PCs inside one case by Sayan Sen At Computex 2026 earlier this month, AMD announced a couple of new X3D processors for both sockets AM4 and AM5 as it confirmed the support extension of the latter till 2029. And although Intel didn't unveil any new desktop chips, the company's Core Ultra 200S Plus series is relatively new too. Let's say though that you want the best of both worlds simultaneously, and instead of running two different systems, you can have both running together side-by-side, or rather on top of one another. That's exactly what Thermaltake's CAPO X dual system is made for doing. While it's not exactly mandatory to run AMD with Intel, or vice versa, you get the idea. As you can see in the render above, it is essentially like a double-decker PC case that is capable of holding two microATX (mATX) motherboards. Even running just one discrete graphics card in a PC can get toasty, so you may be wondering how well the cooling is designed on the CAPO X, Thermaltake has confirmed, as is evident from the marketing promo image above, that the case supports up to two 360 mm AIO liquid coolers. 420mm is not supported. In total there is room for 13 120mm case fans. In terms of I/O (input/output) options for the two systems, there are naturally two places for those ports, one at the top and one at the very bottom of the chassis in the front panel. In terms of use cases, there are many possibilities. Thermaltake itself, for example, highlights how one system can be your main PC while the other could be the AI agent PC. Another example given is how it can be used to stream and game simultaneously with dedicated systems instead of hogging one with the entire load. Nothing regarding pricing or availability was said. • There might be some passive design improvements (cooling, etc), but I doubt they'd change the core performance spec of the hardware mid-generation when they've already got a new console in development.
    • State of Decay 3 is out in 2027, reveals Plague Nests with new co-op gameplay trailer by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe A few months ago, Undead Labs broke its silence about the third entry in the State of Decay series since its announcement in 2020. Today, the studio had a brand-new trailer to reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase, finally giving players a look at the Unreal Engine 5-powered title. A broad 2027 release window is now attached to State of Decay 3 too. The studio confirmed that every scene seen in the gameplay trailer (except for the studio logo) released today is from the game with no cinematic footage. "The quality bar of the moment-to-moment experience is higher than anything we’ve achieved in Undead Labs’ history," says the studio. "State of Decay 3 is being built in Unreal Engine 5, and we’re creating better quality versions of what makes our game the survival sandbox it is, and the combat experience is really, really important to us, and I think you can see it coming through in this trailer." One new aspect of this upcoming entry is the Plague Nests. These are supposed to be dynamic, dungeon‑like enemy hubs with varied “personas” that change tactics each time one appears on a map. These areas will have the best loot in the game for players brave enough to tackle them. The combat system is being overhauled too, letting players do quick and power attacks depending on the situation. This isn't just on the player's side though, as zombies themselves now have multiple new types of behaviors depending on how fresh or decayed they are. "All of these play very differently, especially as you start getting outnumbered or when you’re making noise and running around and trying to save your rear end or the rear end of your friend next to you," adds the developer. Of course, settlement building and community management are massive parts of this third entry too. These are being further expanded with the cooperative focus, giving players much more freedom for playing together than in State of Decay 2. Players will even be able to split up and build settlements in different areas of the same map with different goals. Undead Labs confirmed that playtests are already ongoing for the title, and interested players can sign up to participate by heading over here once more slots open up ahead of the full release. State of Decay 3 is coming out on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Game Pass sometime in 2027.
