Looks like the next update may also allow "Dimming the Light bar"

Its funny how Geoff posts saying you can turn it off, only get to get smacked down by the one who told him.  Maybe Geoff got too excited?

Being able to dim the light would be great, but turning it off would be perfect.

I honestly don't see the need for the light bar if it is not used for tracking with the camera. It seems really odd that they took such a hard line stance previously on what is for the most part a superfluous cosmetic gimmick which drains battery.

It looks cool, but is far too bright in a darkened room and the battery life is awful so not wasting juice on it would be a bonus.

Glad they are listening to consumers if they allow us to at least dim it.

I am baffled as to how you keep continually completely missing the point?

Firstly, what was incorrect about my post?

Secondly, I never said they were new to gaming. I said they were new features pushed to the xbox one. My point being that Microsoft are pushing out updates to the xbox one that make a difference to the user experience ON THAT CONSOLE, in comparison to Sony who have pushed out absolutely nothing of substance so far, from a users functionality perspective nothing has changed bar headset support.

I'm not missing the point, I said new to X1 and not new to gaming. How can you say congrats to one company for releasing an OS which isn't even up to snuff with their old one, but then be hard on another one which at least got that part right? And to top it off, I'm condemning them both for being so incompetent for their lack of progress. Neither one should be congratulated for the features they've released. The only good thing about MS' updates so far is the speed they've released them.

You clearly are missing it though. Irrespective of what features the os does or doesn't have compared to the previous more mature consoles it is irrelevant.

I said Microsoft are to be commended for hammering out updates with features which improve the user experience on that console while Sony have released nothing user facing at all. I only own a PS4 and am expressing my frustration that Sony haven't updated it in any meaningful way yet when the competition can clearly manage it.

What updates do we all want for the PS4? I just need friend online and offline notifications.

Personally I am just waiting for external HDD support.  My TV has full dlna/youtube/netflix/etc so no need for it on my PS4.  The only thing I'd like to see is the ability to use an external HDD for game installs.   Other than that.. I am 100% perfectly happy with my PS4.

What updates do we all want for the PS4? I just need friend online and offline notifications.

-DLNA support

-Complete external storage support

-Friend notifications (I forgot about that one)

-Improved media app performance/reliability

-Sony's own media apps supporting local media playback either from an external or a home network.

-Longer record time options for the game dvr

-Quality options for the game dvr (and of course an option to record in native quality if possible)

-More voice command integration (i.e. more/smarter commands)

-More customization options for the home screen (i.e. hide some of the social things like the feed)

That's about all I can think of at the moment.  Strangely enough, most of those are also on my X1 update wish list.

Just because I want updates does not mean I'm unhappy, I'm just interested in seeing more done.

-DLNA support - Oh yes, I will take that

-Complete external storage support - Sony has stated that they WILL not support external storage for GAME installs

-More voice command integration (i.e. more/smarter commands)

-More customization options for the home screen (i.e. hide some of the social things like the feed) - Agreed, I want that as well.

See above in bold

Great that Sony removed HDCP protocol as I can now use my newly purchased Avermedia C285... However what sucks is that my government just blocked youtube and I can not start my channel  :/

  • 3 weeks later...

Pretty good start to the update list. I hope there is more, but I do like being able to pre-download games that I pre-order.

Hopefully the video editor is fairly comprehensive. I've enjoyed using the one on the X1, but there is more that could be done there. I think removing the HDCP will be a bigger deal for people that stream semi-professionally. I'm fine with using the ps4's record ability, although I would like to see some quality improvements and expanded recording times.

I honestly cant think of anything i want on my ps4.  I only use it for games and it does that well and i dont do online multiplayer on ps4.  Its funny though I ask and demand more out of my xbox one cause i do use online and most of the other features.  Even use kinect voice commands for volume and what not while im using my ps4 for games.  Also because the 360 had so many features i think i expect more from MS where as i dont think sony had to do near as much to get everything from the ps3 on the ps4 working.

Also ps4 was advertised to me as a Gaming First Console and XO was advertised as a media ALL in one device that can game about as good as the ps4.

@newbreedofnerd @yosp Any word on if the music we can insert into the footage is pre-canned, or can we actually upload our own mp3's?

Stuart Platt ?@newbreedofnerd

@NJShadow @yosp you can import your own original music from a USB drive. Glad you like it!

Ok that is awesome. I do wonder though. If you can use any music you want, I wonder if that would draw the ire of the music companies. I know Sony is a music company and it would be funny if they flag videos with their music, but I was thinking more about other groups. I know how bad it is on youtube. The twitter comment does say 'original' music, which could mean only music you actually make is acceptable, but we will see.

Plus, if they are going so far as to allow you to use mp3s that are stored on a usb drive, then why in the heck are they not offer an app that can play local media? The Music Unlimited app could be updated to do it (even if I have had a pretty poor time with it up to this point). I would be grateful to them if that turned out to be part of the plan for this next update. I would also appreciate it if it supported mp3 and flac files since most of my ripped music is in flac.

It probably will be against the T&Cs, even X1 Upload Studio prohibits it. Remains to be seen what actually happens and who makes the first move. Do/will MS/Sony remove it before copyright holders contact them etc.

I think they would release an update for Music Unlimited or include in the OS update a way to play the music outside of video editing.. or atlest I hope they do as it would be bad form on Sony's behalf if they add mp3 support just for a video editor.

Great.  A "big" update with features I don't care to use.  I hope part of that big update will involve removing all the ads for Playstation Plus...because I already bought the damned membership!  Why are they still trying to sell me another one right and left all over the store?

    • A different thing with Russia. When you say is it better, depends on things. It is better that we don't have the E.U making rules and laws that have nothing to do with them. Is the trading part better? No, that is really mucked up, but then we knew that was going to happen and we would have make agreements, like we do with other parts of the world. Freedom of movement is certainly better, but could be improved, we still need more control over our borders. do you live in the U.K?
    • So what am I quoting from them? I never listened to what Farage or his cronies said. I wanted the U.K to leave the E.u years before the referendum and it had nothing to do with Farage and his cronies. So what country do you live in? Did we work much better together? We were always at logger heads with the E.U because we disagreed with them so much. Maggie was always on at them. I would have thought the E.U was glad to get rid of us as we stopped the integration or made it a two tier. Now without us they can integrate more. I would not have voted out if it was just a trading block and we can still work together on somethings.

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices.
