When is the best time to start learning technologies in my academic career?

I'm not too sure about the question. There is never a best time to start learning about technology because it's always changing.

Which direction do you want your career to head in? At least with that in mind you can start to focus on areas of technology that will be helpful to your area.

If your asking that question its already too late,

Time waits for no man, As you speak men are getting richer, faster and more powerful and leaving you behind.

I take it your in the UK, I did a BTEC.

My guess is India.

I am pursuing my B- Tech 2 nd year and i want to know when i can start learning new technologies which will help me for building my carrer great and to get a job as soon as i finish my B-Tech.

Its never too early or too late . You should invest your spare time to keep yourself updated with the latest technology, software etc which would supplement your coursework and  come handy once you start working .

2nd year is a not a bad time to start. Though you could have started much earlier. In my experience (at least in the perspective of IT ) you have to unlearn a lot of things you learnt at the university when you get to the industry . I've found it much easier to go with the industry practices first and not get stuck in the university's frame of reference. Sure they're important but it won't really get you anywhere in the industry.
