The third Diablo game will finally hit current-gen consoles (minus Wii U) this summer. Blizzard announced today that the Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition?which includes both the base game and the recently-released expansion, Reaper of Souls?will be out on August 19.

In addition to PS4 and Xbox One, the Ultimate Evil Edition (what a name!) will also be available for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Via Blizzard:

The console version of Reaper of Souls has been designed to take advantage of the unique features of the console platforms. All four console versions of the Ultimate Evil Edition feature4-player same-screen and online multiplayer?whether you're banding together on the same couch or joining the fray via PlayStation?Network or the Xbox Live online entertainment network, Reaper of Souls makes it easy to experience Diablo in the best way possible: with your friends.

The Ultimate Evil Edition introduces even more ways for players to share their adventures. A new Apprentice mode boosts low-level players' power while adventuring with high-level friends, making it easier than ever to play together. Players will also be able to share treasures with other players on their friends lists via an in-game mail system, including mysterious Player Gifts containing rare loot for the adventurer whose name they bear.

Can't. hold. back. excitement  :woot:

IDK how people can play this on console, I'd imagine given the number of keys required it's not much fun unless you're on a PC.

I was going to get it, in theory, it should be ok, as the amount of buttons needed can be set to a high end gaming mouse (assuming it has the relevant amount of user changeable buttons) so the controller doesn't appear to be that big of an issue, but for those who had it on now older gen consoles would better be able to answer that than I,

I just got fed up of waiting, (had it free when my wife did something with WoW, can't remember if it was buying an expansion or paying for a year's sub)

I've played original d3 on xbox 360 and it's way better experience than on PC! Can't wait to play it again on xbox ONE! Really excited! So sony paid Blizz to show this game only on ps4 :)

You lose some precision but overall they have the controls worked out really well.  This isn't WoW.  There are only 6 hot keyed abilities at a time + potion + movement.  Modern console controllers can handle the amount of abilities...its aiming that gets tricky for different AoE spells (such as Blizzard, Hydra, and Black Hole on the Wizard).

My experience with the 360 version of the original D3 was good but damn it was hard.  I thought that the console version of D3 was a bit harder out the gate than the PC version.

If there is some discount for existing D3 for console owners, I might be persuaded to upgrade.  As it is now, I'll just stick with the PC version.  Maybe pick it up for console in a year when I see it in a bargain bin or being sold used somewhere for $20 or w/e.

The game was designed with console play in mind. It is one of the major criticisms for the title.

Can understand the criticism, as it's a Bliz game and they were built by PC gamers. Can't fault them for expanding though, it's like complaining that Hearthstone is on iOS. I played a little D3 on PC, wasn't that bad (the free version you get with Battle.net), though not as intuitive as on 360. I generally prefer controllers to mouse/keyboard, with rare exceptions like BF4.

It actually works brilliantly on a controller.

Judging by the amount of people saying the game is very playable on a console (including a colleague at work who plays it on the PS3), I guess I'm going to need to give this a go first hand.

It's a shame the console players have to wait so long to get to play the Crusader class; they're great fun.

Surprisingly, D3 for 360 was available at a RedBox near me for rent on the release day last year.  If you already have it for PC, and just want to check it out, you might look into renting it.  I think there may even be a demo available on 360/PS3.

Corrected that for you.

It didn't need to be corrected. It was accurate as stated.

I was a long time D2 player and I commonly interact on various Diablo themed forums. The decisions on priority console support, online only play, and the auction house were bashed immediately, often, and still today.

Can we please have a Diablo topic that doesn't descend into bickering about D2/D3 and PoE for once. Just getting that out there before it starts.

It's an irrelevant argument. PoE isn't on consoles, D3 is, people like it and are looking forward to the UE in August. Done (Y)

For the record, you mentioned PoE, not me, and I wasn't about to.

All that I said was that D3 was developed with consoles in mind.

I would imagine D3 would be a bit awkward to play on a console? Seems like it anyhow.

Having played it on both 360 and PC (though very limited on PC, finished it on 360), i personally preferred the console version. But then i prefer controllers for everything, it's just me. The most notable difference was the graphics, which on 360 were OK but obviously not as sharp, and also had...screen tearing for some random reason!

Yeah..I know what you mean about screen tearing.  Almost like it lacks VSync or something like that.  Funny thing is you don't hardly see it in same-screen multiplayer mode but it is very noticeable on my HDTV in single player on the xbox.  In single player, more pixels move as your character moves so it makes sense I think....

I too prefer the controller simply for the "kick back on the couch" reasons.  I sit upright typing on a keyboard all day at work, and need a break when I get home!

It was definitely weird to have screen tearing/no vsync in Diablo, when much more demanding games run smooth on 360. It still ran great, just that screen tearing was occasionally noticeable. And know exactly what you mean about the keyboard....as a salaryman i now spend way too much time on one, as you say. Also i just find controllers more intuitive, maybe it's due to getting old and longer response times..."now where's that damn E key, sonny", you know, like that. Controllers everything's within easy reach of my increasingly geriatric hands :punch:

    • I and many others did not vote to get out of the E.u because of Putin or Farage, we did so for our own reasons. You don't have to tel me what my own did or did not do when it comes to the E.U. The EEC is or was the European Economic Community, a different beast to what the E.U is now.The EEC was a mainly about trading, the E.U have gone far beyond that and as I have said before, is now more of a United States of Europe. The U.K did not vote to join a United States of Europe. Anyway, they did not want us in there in the first place, Charles de Gaulle stopped us joining as he claimed we didn’t agree with the core ideas of integration. He was not wrong and that is why we voted out of the E.U when the time came. I was not old enough to vote the first time. My only regret is that we did not have the referendum years ago and got out years ago. If we rejoined, we would have to agree to join the Euro and no doubt Schengen, agree with freedom of movement, we have enough problem with people coming over here as it is. i have no problem with people coming over here if they work and don't try to push their way of life onto us. The E.U has a currency, freedom of movement, an anthem a flag, a parliament, well they are there, not sure if they do anything. Don't sound like something that is just for trading. Oh yeah, also wanted a euro Army. How many stupid rules have the E.U made that we had to follow? I doubt I will see the Uk rejoin the E.U, which suits me. Oh yeah, my partner is Polish, she came over here before Poland joined the E.U and she got fed up of people just coming over here with ease, while she had to struggle. She is now a British citizen and have been for a fair few years
    • Hello, Paul. Thanks for the editorial. It was interesting. I'm going research more into the app and its concept. Of course, if you know me at all, you know that I'd say your articles needs some editing! I a;ways do, don't I? For instance, the article occasionally mentions a concept before defining it, e.g., relays.
    • Screamer is 50% off on Steam, making it £24.99 here in the UK: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2814990/Screamer/ You might remember the series from the mid 90s / early 2000s, this new game is also by Milestone who created the older games.
    • U.S. partially reverses Anthropic AI ban for Mythos but keeps Fable 5 off the market by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic says that the U.S. government has finally allowed it to restore Claude Mythos 5. But of course, there's a catch. The rollout is again for a limited set of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This does not mean that Anthropic's latest frontier models are back to normal availability. Fable 5, which was a tuned version of Mythos 5 for public release, remains unavailable. Anthropic said that it is still working with the government to expand Mythos 5 access and make Fable 5 available again, but there's no timeline. Reports from Bloomberg and Reuters say that this decision actually came through a letter from the U.S. Commerce Department. According to Reuters, this would allow more than 100 companies and institutions access to Mythos 5. Reuters also reported that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s letter removes the need for export licenses for approved companies’ non-US citizen employees, as well as Anthropic’s own non-US citizen employees, while restrictions remain for organizations outside the approved list. Anthropic isn't alone with this kind of controlled rollout. OpenAI's newest model family, GPT 5.6, was announced just yesterday, but isn't available for everyone yet. In its announcement, OpenAI also said that access to these models is initially limited to a select group of trusted partners and organizations, with broader access planned later this year. Both of these cases show that frontier AI launches are no longer just ordinary product releases and more like slow and vetted deployments shaped heavily by the U.S. government.
