Quite possibly. On the bright side, it looks like the BNP will be completely wiped out tonight; party leader Nick Griffin's the only MEP left standing and he seems to have already admitted defeat...

North West England is in. Eight seats, three won each by Labour and UKIP, two won by the Tories. UKIP gained two, Labour gained one, the Tories lost one, the Lib Dems and the BNP lost their sole seats each, and it's now official: the BNP has been wiped out of Europe.

West Midlands is in. Seven seats, three to UKIP, two each to the Tories and Labour. One gain each for UKIP and Labour, one loss each for the Tories and Lib Dems with the Lib Dems shut out of yet another region.

The BNP and the far right always thrive during Labours time in power and then disappear during the Conservatives nothing new here, if Labour would have taken immigration and Europe seriously while in power we'd have had no BNP or UKIP.

The trend's broken this time around, as - discounting the BNP's wipeout - the far-right (UKIP) have risen all the way to the top during a Conservative-led government. It seems to be the trend throughout most of Europe; according to the exit polls in France, the National Front are running away with the votes there.

South East England is in. Ten seats, four to UKIP (with Nigel Farage retaining his seat), three to the Tories, one each to Labour, the Greens and the Lib Dems. UKIP gained two, the Tories lost one, Labour and the Greens stayed the same, the Lib Dems lost one, but for once, they're officially not going away empty-handed; that one seat may be all they end up with throughout the UK. The Greens, meanwhile, are at least breaking even now; they were predicted to treble their MEPs from two to six.

What a silly thing to say.  UKIP are little more than the BNP with a silly smile and you're basically saying that if Labour had had the same racist attitude to immigrants we wouldn't have to worry about other far right parties.

 

I'd also argue that UKIP wouldn't be doing so well if it wasn't for the Tories.They've been banging on about immigrants and the EU ad nauseum for the last four years getting more and more hysterical as the 1st of January approached. They've made racism acceptable in the UK to the point where people think it's alright to blame all their problems on foreigners.

 

Anyway, UKIP have won in the UK and FN appear to have won in France.  It's a sad day.  The only good news is that the Lib Dems have had it and we have a lame duck government.

Three regions still yet to declare: London, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Have a feeling they're not coming in anytime soon, so I might head off to bed and let someone else post those results if they're staying up.

Did you not look up what the tories did in the 80s and 90s? Why did you think they'd be any different now, with a leader that hailed thatcher?

Why do you ask rhetorical questions?

 

You should ask: ''did you look up'' rather than did not.

 

The conservatives did a lot of good things, like stopping labour run unions holding business's and councils to ransom.

 

If you want to whine on about the miners, you go blame the nonce Arthur Scargill, the miners were offered a fair deal, he wanted more.

 

I remember what a faeces hole the United Kingdom became when in the 70's labour ran the country, that is why Mrs T got voted in.

 

Labour do not represent the working classes.

 

They are snouts at the troff.

 

If I believed that Labour represented me, a working class man, then I might vote for them.

 

Labour are a racist party full of public school boys and girls that want to make a heap of money for themselves.

I quite like Farage; his TV appearances amuse me. I don't think he is a racist, but he is clearly a xenophobe.

As a staunch Europhile, I guess I would have voted with a Green Party virtual no-vote.

 

Nick Griffin disagrees with you:

 

 

Speaking after his defeat, Griffin blamed Ukip for taking the BNP's vote. Asked whether the people of the north-west had rejected his party's racist and fascist policies, he said: "They've voted for Ukip's racist policies instead."

That, by the way, was the exact picture that a UKIP member reported to the police, resulting in the tweeter getting a visit from two officers.

Good lord. Though it's probably nonsense.

You can see the sources on the right of each one; the original poster fact-checked them all (which bizarrely earned him a visit from the police) and there was only three he couldn't find concrete sources for: cancelling all planned house-building (they'd only cancel house-building on green belt land, which isn't anything to brag about, as that's pretty much the point of the green belt), cancelling regulation to make banks safer (going from the past decade or so, they're already safe enough as it is), and cutting education spending to buy three aircraft carriers (the buying aircraft carriers part is true, but there's no indication the funding for it would come directly from cutting education).

 

The other six are still pretty serious to for most people to avoid voting for them (as least if they actually read their policies).

Labour gained two, UKIP and Green stayed the same, the Tories lost one and the Lib Dems once again lost their sole seat, so they held on to just one seat throughout England.

 

Found out Scotland and Ireland don't count votes on Sundays, so they're coming in later today. There won't be much change in the overall picture though, so here's how England now looks in the European Parliament...

History's definitely been made, and not just because UKIP won; the Tories for the first time in their 180-year history have finished outside the top two in a nationwide election.

 

And now, another case for compulsory voting...

Two things impress me about that result. 

 

34.19% turnout, and UKIP coming top. 

 

 

But 34.19% -> That is impressively low. Time for you guys to do what Australia does and make it a crime not to vote. Of course, you'll probably need a new Australia-sized place to put all of the newly-created criminals as your jails will never fit them all...

As a staunch Europhile, I guess I would have voted with a Green Party virtual no-vote.

I know what school Farage went to, Dulwich College, a nice public school in West Dulwich, I went to William Penn, North Dulwich/Denmark Hill.

 

He is a good few years older than me and I have never met him, however, the types that left that school he went to are very far right.

 

Not making any suggestions but I thought I would add that in.

 

Just another public school boy leading a political party.
