Beginning today, new PC drivers for the Xbox One controller will be available for download, offering PC gamers a better way to play using the Xbox One controller. We?re planning to release the drivers as part of a Windows update in the near future; however, today, I am happy to offer  early access to our dedicated PC gamers on MajorNelson.com.

PC Drivers for Xbox One Controller (x86)

PC Drivers for Xbox One Controller (x64)

We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller. We can?t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we?re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks. The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller. Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and you?ll be gaming in no time.

We look forward to sharing more about the amazing lineup of games coming to Xbox during our Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing, Xbox: Game On, which will take place Monday, June 9 beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 a.m. PDT.

By the way, can it be used wirelessly on PC? How does that work?

I imagine they would have to release a wireless adapter like they did with 360.  I'm glad I got that when I did, because I love using my Bluetooth xbox headset and wireless 360 controller on my pc.  They stopped making it, which to me was a big mistake.  Even if they released an adapter for the X1 controller, I probably wouldn't get it anytime soon, since the 360 one still works fine for me.

Sounds like we should still wait for the 'PC' version if we want wireless?  I assume this means its on the horizon.

why can't Microsoft allow the controller to use standard Bluetooth? it's so easy to use my PS4 controller on my PC because i can just pair it with my bluetooth

PS4 can work with native PC Bluetooth?  Didn't know that, since the PS3 couldn't.

yes. you just hold the ps button and share and the controller goes into pairing mode & pairs right up with any bluetooth device

it's a nice improvement indeed. (though you'll still want to use the DS4Windows tool to get full functionality [including touchpad support :)])

YES!!!!! Finally! I have been waiting far too long for this.

you're avatar matches that enthusiasm far to well lol

X1 controller doesn't work with the old 360 crossfire (unsurprisingly, they switched to wifi direct for the console), so a new dongle will be required. USB only for now. IIRC E3 2006 was when they announced all the accessories for the 360 (wireless headset, vision, HD DVD + remote, crossfire etc), so news could be coming next week.

The pc controller part doesn't bug me, the only thing I'm upset about is I'll have to buy a completely new Wireless headset.  The current solution for X1 is just meh.

Yeah I'm waiting for the third party solution myself and none of the 1st generation rubbish either.

Wish it wasn't the case as I love my 360 headset but what you gonna do :/

Since I don't have a wireless Xbox controller for PC yet I'll wait until the Xbox one controller is available before buying one now, I was planning on getting a 360 wireless for the HTPC since I need an USB extension cable to use the wired one.

Xbox One Controller works flawlessly for the most part on PC games.  All the buttons are almost mapped perfectly...

I have played BF4, and Asphalt Heat 8 (Off the Windows Store), and Magicka... And all 3 games work amazingly well with the One Controller...

Thanks for the update, that's good to know that it's working well with games. So, just a plain old USB cable, right?

    • Microsoft, why can't I just turn off Copilot on my MS account (in order to stop OneDrive from wanting to summarize everything, ahem) in a way that doesn't break OneNote instead?
