Yesterday morning my wife gave birth via c-section to the latest addition to our family, a beautiful baby girl named Hermione Sue Adams.  All is well and everybody is happy and healthy.  She was 7 pounds 8 ounces, 18 inches long.

This makes our 2nd and last one.  We've got a tubal scheduled already.  Our first one is a little boy named Alistair who is 3 years old.

Overall, I have to say that we've had a much better experience at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, KY than we did at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis. I don't know if it was because Alistair was an emergency C-section or what, but when he was born Ash' Leigh (my wife) was pretty much incapacitated for the first 48 hours, and had difficulty for a while after that. When they brought her back into the room where I was already holding Alistair, she couldn't hold him because she was shaking violently from the meds they gave her. She swelled up really bad for a while too because since I wasn't in the room they gave her morphine, which she's allergic to, even though we told them ahead of time not to give it to her. She was incapable of walking and had numb areas still up until about a year ago from the last C-section.

In contrast, this one was performed by a Dr. Ascani who also works at "Physicians for Women" right down the road from Highlands. He kept her conscious during the operation and I was allowed in the operating room with her, and they just put a big sheet up so she couldn't see what was going on. I stayed near the head of the bed behind the sheet with her, and when they actually pulled the baby out they told me to stand up and let me watch the doctor pull her out. They let me cut the umbilical cord and everything, and Ash' Leigh says she has some pain, but nowhere near as much as she did last time. Instead of giving her morphine, the anesthesiologist mixed up some kind of cocktail of drugs that accomplished the same goal of numbing her during the operation without causing an allergic reaction. She hasn't had any issues so far and is even able to sit up on her own, so they must have somehow or another managed to avoid cutting all of her abdominal muscles. She isn't swelling or bleeding nearly as much as she did last time either. They're giving her some mild painkillers (I think I heard her say it's just extra strength tylenol in liquid form) via her I.V., but overall she's doing much better, and the staff in the maternity ward at Highlands along with Dr. Ascani were very friendly yet professional and did a great job. My thanks go out to them for helping bring my daughter into this world and keeping my wife as healthy and happy as possible during and after the operation. I would recommend them to anybody considering having a c-section birth.

Congrats dude!

Glad both your ladies are doing well and the overall experience has been as enjoyable as someone cutting you open can be :D

Out of curiosity, was this a planned C-section? I assume because of her having the first baby by C-section its a lot safer to carry on like that?

Yep.  This c-section was planned.  That's why she was kept conscious and everything.
