Task Bar not displaying tasks!

Recommended Posts

My task bar is simply - not displaying tasks. The quick launch bar is allowed to take up as much space as it wants, and there seems to be no way to get the tasks back. This has happened before, seems to have no real reason, and I can usually fix it with a system restore. Except that my system restore is buggered as well. It pops up with that usual 'send the info to MS' box. Help me - both problems please if possible!!!

/edit: Maybe if there is a way to reset all taskbar positions/settings to deafult...?

1. i personally wouldn't ude system restore, it's a waste of space and it doesn't work! lol

2. have you tried windowsupdate?

3. if all else fails, format lol

1. It worked in the past...

2. No luck there

3. I haven't got time!!!!

 Might be a format time - only ten weeks after the last....I WANT A MAC!!!!

it sounds like the portion of the taskbar that shows currently running programs is shrinked to minimum, is this correct? just size it and make it bigger

as for system restore crashing... :s i dunno, run sfc /scannow and hope it fixes it.

Yeah - I think that's the problem (sized down) - just that I can't see the handles - at all! I've spent ten minutes trying to grab 'em, but they are just gone! That is why I was hoping to be able to reset the taskbar settings entirely.

yanman is a avid fan of not having system restore on as he thinks it wastes sooo much space  anyway 200mb is alot

why not stretch your taskbar up to the side or make it bigger, then grab the handles and move back into place.

Change you resolution so that it stretches the task bar.

hehe the problem is that u hid the taskpane

the quick launch is taking all the space!

No, I tried that - the Quick Launch is taking the space beacuse it can, that's all. When I disabled all the toolbars, the whole bar just collapsed.

Possible, but shouldn't Ad-Aware have picked it up? I ran that twice tonight.

it might be not an adware but ratter a buggy plugin or a malefic one, ad aware dont detect those

Some how reg entries became corrupt.

The VBS script deletes a couple entries and also adds and restores some thats needed to get it working again.

It then reboots explorer for the changes to take effect.

Good ol Dougy and Kellz.

    • This keeps happening with Intel Arc drives, since intel keeps releasing newer non-whql revisions.
    • Is that the experience of a local account? I don't recall signing out of Edge being an option for them on Microsoft accounts. At the time, the MS default settings blocked 3rd party browsers like Chrome because they had no way to limit what was done without that browser. You are right, there isn't really a way to prevent someone from installing their own OS if they have local access to the system and the knowledge to do so. If someone is willing to go to the lengths of reinstalling an operating system, then you are really beyond protections like this. It would be like hoping a basic spring-loaded privacy lock can contain someone with lock someone with lock picking skills. My personal advice for a situation like that is that parenting isn't only about creating barriers, it is about growing, teaching, and trust. You don't want to see your kid as a hacker that you are trying to contain, you want to see them as someone who you trust to use a computer. If you don't feel that trust is justified, then maybe they shouldn't have unsupervised access to the computer. Even if you do have to set restrictions, there is an element of trust to those restrictions. When someone is grounded from leaving the house, you don't accomplish that by tying them down, you do it by setting expectations. The same applies to the digital world, you can set expectations that you expect them to follow, even if they are not digitally enforced. If they violate that trust, then the answer isn't to try different parental controls, it is to create consequences such as taking the device away for a few weeks.
    • I can't help but feel like MS is giving Windows 11 a spit-shine to get it ready for all the inbound displaced Windows 10 users. They still refuse to give people the things they actually want, but I guess they think silly options like this will at least make it look like they have options.
    • Yeah the the web safety you can just literally logout of edge or chrome and sign in as guest. Its kinda a joke. I went to extreme lengths with son trying to stop him even disabling usb ports, bios, recovery mode. He just took the side of case off reset bios and installed windows from a usb he got off a mate .
