FileZilla Server does not list directories when access the server using FileZilla Client

Recommended Posts

I've setup filezilla server on a machine on a local network, and setup filezilla client on another machine on the same local network.

I can access the filezilla server side from the filezilla client side using the computer name and logged in as fine with no issues at all.

My problem is that I can not find any directory listed in my filezilla client side while I did added and shared directories and other settings.

I've goggled a lot before posting and tried several troubleshooting like using the same port in both sides filezilla sever and client, and also tried using passive and the other modes and some others tips but no way to list the shared directories.

Please if you may help that would be cool.

This is the log of the filezilla client.

Have you added any users to the server, before trying to connect with the client?

Yes I did added a user and a group as well and added the user to the group, then added the shared folders to the user.

- when i add the root of the drive c, i can see the whole drive c listed on the client.

- when i add a shared folder from drive C or drive D I can not see anything listed in the client.

also any added shared folder has full access and all check boxes are checked in the settings of the shared folders.

I hope you may help.

views can be bots, so do go by those.

What permissions have you set on the folder for the user account, this is really bing bang zoom what account are you using to access them. A windows account?

What do you have set for the users Home dir? What are your windows permissions on this folder?

Filezilla is rather finicky sometimes. When you grant access to shared folders, are you using the actual folder though? A lot of times shared folders are actually shortcuts and such. When I set up my server, I was able to get it working with the root directory of a hard drive but to get another folder to show up, I had to create an alias.

Thanks for the bot info.

I've checked all boxes.

No I created ftp account and access it from filezilla client to filezilla server.

Yes I set the home directory.

Please how you can do the alias correctly because each time I double click the empty space under the alias in the shared folder window I can not and it reporting an error and asking for the full virtual path.

There is a folder in drive C: and another folder n drive D:

These are the two drives I need to access from the client to server.

please may you tell me more about this alias?

I would suggest you get access to 1 folder working before you try setting up other folders, etc.

Its not really that hard.. Here I just gave my ftp user access to c:\2ndfolder with alias

Create a dir, example c:\ftpuser, then you can create aliases to anything you want them to have access to

In case there is a one folder on a hard drive ( c ) titled ftp-user-c and another folder on the other hard drive ( d ) titled ftp-user-d

please may you tell me the right and recommended aliases for each one of them?

what is the users home folder? c:\ftp-user-c ?

So for example mine user home folder is c:\ftpuser, I have create a directory on f called f:\ftp-user-f, I don't have a D in the system running ftp server

So here is the alias

So you add the folder f:\ftp-user-f in my case, and then right click and create an alias that puts in the home folder c:\ftpuser\foldername - so used its actual foldername call ftp-user-f

Does that explain it to you?

You need to add the folders you want the user have access too. Then you can create aliases to put them in folders under its home dir.

This is a few seconds video for what I did understand.

I am still have the same question: why not all folders I added to shared folders are shown as it should?

Thanks

added to the shared folder where?

You have a Home dir of say c:\ftpuser

and actually under that folder c:\ftpuser\subfolder - like in my screenshot, your saying your not seeing subfolder? Do you have the permission set to show subfolders on the home dir? Or are you talking aliases ?

What are the ntfs permissions of the older structure?

edit: Ok don't have to watch the whole thing to see what your doing wrong. When you first connect and your home dire is new directory you are IN THAT directory when you connect that is your / "root" folder.

And your doing your aliases wrong if you want to see them. And I would highly suggest you get rid of spaces in your folder names to use via ftp server. Its a really bad habit.. its ok locally, but when it comes to shares and stuff spaces cause problems.

I thought I clearly explained this.. And showed a picture

your homme is c:\home

when you connect you will just see / -- anything in c:\home you should see - put some files and sub folders in there.

now if you want to also give access to d:\somefolder then add that. Then create alias like this c:\home\somefolder

This places d:\somefolder as a folder called somefolder under c:\home when you connect via ftp.

you could also add an alias like this your added folder is d:\somefolder, you could create an alias called c:\home\newname

now when you connect you will see / and under that a folder called newname that shows the folder structure of d:\somefolder.

    • But building your own.. what? You can't build anything like the Steam Machine yourself. Even trying to get close costs a good deal more. Even just the CPU cooler in their price comparison is as big as the entire Steam Machine. If you want a regular gaming PC, then by all means, build that. If you want a a small console-like PC for the living room that is good for gaming, I'm not sure what else is a better deal. In the GN review, they only mentioned a small form factor Dell, which is like twice the size and hundreds of dollars more expensive.
    • Those are some popular multiplayer games. But hardly "all". Just those that don't work on Linux currently due to specific anti-cheat implementations. I think it's also fair to point out the literally thousands of games that don't work on the PS5. And it's not locked at 1080p. That's the default, which you can change.
    • Ubuntu Livepatch arrives on Arm64 to eliminate system reboots for kernel updates by Paul Hill Canonical has just announced that its Livepatch service now supports computers with Arm64 processors. For those who are not familiar, Livepatch allows users to apply important kernel updates without any service interruption or rebooting. While home users will benefit from this, it’s even more important for critical machines that absolutely should not be going offline at all. The feature is available as part of Ubuntu Core 26 for Arm64 and Ubuntu Core 20 and onwards for AMD64. According to Canonical, this will improve the security of systems that aren’t security-maintained daily or weekly, and it helps organizations work towards Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, you probably know that most packages can be updated without having to restart the system. There is one big exception to this, and that’s the kernel; it typically requires you to reload the system to boot into the new kernel. With Livepatch, Canonical has done something so that you don’t need to restart to begin using the new kernel. Aside from Ubuntu Core 26, users with Arm64 chips running Ubuntu 26.04 LTS can also use Livepatch. If you want to learn more about Livepatch, check out its product page. There, you can also find a button to join Ubuntu Pro (it’s free for several home devices) so that you can enable Livepatch. By linking your computer to Ubuntu Pro, you will also extend the life of your Ubuntu install from five years to ten years. If you are running Ubuntu, let us know in the comments if you have been looking forward to this feature on your ARM-based computer. If you’ve had a compatible AMD64 machine for a while and never used this feature, let us know why in the comments!
