Thanks a lot! So the manufacturer's software has something like a higher priority over the developer preview version? Anyway, installing now ;)

Since this is a big update, any estimates on how much time should I expect it to take?

No, the firmware and the OS are two different things, both independent from each other. But Cyan probably doesn't run on 8.0 (as it's optimized for 8.1), hence the 8.1 upgrade coupled with it.

Phew, hard to say, as a jump from 8.0 to 8.1 Update 1 takes multiple updates (it's not all in one), also depending how your connection is and how many data needs to be mitigrated. Could take a while in any case (some updates loaded faster, other slower, that's probably a server thing). I'd guess 2-3 hours with all updates, but like I said, it depends on various factors.

Installe nokia software recovery tool to roobkack my 1020 to WP8 and see if I can get Cyan.   the tool discovered a new software for the phone though, no idea what all the numbers mean, but I'll install it and see if I get Cyan with it before I try to rollback to Black or amber.

kinda funny since I disabled the dev preview to not get the post Cyan update in case it interferred with cyan, then after not getting Cyan for a week after it was supposed to be available I re enabled it to see what it would give me, and it said the stupid post cyan (post 8.1) update was there, but still not cyan, but even disablign dev preview and clearing storage sense I couldn't get rid of the update. once the phone had found it I couldn't stop it from wanting to install it.

So I got Cyan now... BUT seeing as the nokia app hard resets your phone as well. the phone detects my microsoft account backup when I sign it... great.... except. you need to verify who you are with a code they send by sms....  at this point the phone won't show you your sms... OMG!!!

Isn't there also an email option?  I know I have an alternate email set up and if I remember correctly it sent it there.

the phone already added my live account just didn't do the backup.

I did a hard reset again, to do the restore again, skipped the MS account and set it up afterwards so I could get the sms and do the restore...

which sort of worked. except when you do it afterwards it doesn't do a restore, it just asks you if you want to make a backup and use it to backup your data...

meh, I had already resigned myself that I'd lose everythgin before I started so it's not a huge deal, but it's anoying when they have a restore function and it doesn't work.

No luck for me.... just yet. Will check later today/tomorrow.

This is the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 Preview for Developers, right?

I am waiting for the regular update, so no dev-version.

Cyan hasn't fixed the phone freezing, so I guess I'll have to arrange for warranty service for it.
