Tony Stewart hits, kills driver in sprint car race

Recommended Posts

There is NOTHING in that video that suggests the driver intended to hit him. The guy got out of his vehicle and stormed into the track, with drivers having to swerve out of the way. Nobody would be expecting somebody standing in the track, let alone actively positioning themselves in front of cars.

The guy was an absolute imbecile and it cost him his life. Not only that but he put other drivers at risk. I feel sorry for the driver that hit him, as he will have to live with that for the rest of his life.

Not murder, Tony Stewart did not go reverse to make sure if he was actually dead and dumb of Kevin Ward thinking jumping in front of a car to make a confrontation like any smart person he would look both sides of the street.  I know sad day but what is really sad people still do not think before they act out incorrectly.

Yes, Ward made the mistake of getting out of his car. There's no question that this is a dangerous thing to do. But, here are a few observations.

A) The same driver (Ward) had just been wrecked by Stewart.

B) He was passed and avoided by a number of other drivers while on the track.

C) An engine is heard revving just as Stewart's back end kicks out and his car speeds up a bit.

D) Stewart is a professional and is aware of the characteristics of the car he was driving. That is, if he wanted to intentionally kick the back end out and hit Ward, he could've easily done so and made it look like an accident.

This could all be a horrible accident. Then again, this could be murder. But, there are at least a few of the witnesses that believe this was intentional. That's nothing definitive, of course. Stewart could've even being trying to just bump the guy not kill him, which would still be nuts. I sincerely hope this was an accident, but I have my doubts.

So because he is a professional driver which easily makes him a professional murderer?   What a sad logic.  Kevin also a professional driver which should give him the logic that moving in front fast moving cars is not safe but he felt the need to road rage by getting out of his car.

I'm going to ask the obligatory internet forum question. "Did you even read my post?" If so, how did you conclude that I concluded that, "...because he is a professional driver which easily makes him a professional murderer"? I stated some factual observations followed by the supposition that, if he wanted to, Stewart could've hit him and made it look like an accident.

I explicitly stated that it could've been either an accident or murder and that I hope it was an accident. So, your statement has no bearing on anything I said.

As far as what I actually THINK happened. Stewart was trying to intimidate Ward, hit the throttle, and accidentally ran over the kid. Note the use of the terms, "Think" and "accidentally".

I believe Stewart saw Ward at the last second and stepped on his brakes and the car swerved.

Watch the video again. He didn't apply the brakes and actually sped up a bit.

Here's what I took away from watching this video, in response to some of the comments I've seen claiming that Stewart hit the gas or swerved toward him.

1) His engine didn't rev to hit him on purpose, it sounds more like a down-shift.  I don't believe those dirt track cars have brakes, so down-shifting at the last second would have been the best way to try and slow down.

2) The car veered "after" he hit the guy, when his body got caught in the tires.  He did not veer to intentionally hit the guy.

At the end of the day, a 17 year old kid who felt like he had something to prove got out of his car and walked out into the middle of the track.  I'm not saying he deserved to die, but he shouldn't have walked out into the middle of the track.

The engine rev you and everyone else is hearing is not Tony Stewarts car. It's from a car closer to camera, off-screen. The mic is not going to pick up any sounds from across the track.

You really don't know what you're talking about. Those cars are loud. Doesn't matter what you think or wish to believe.

Just because they are loud doesn't mean you didn't hear a different engine.

I don't think so.

But reading another article they talk about 20 years old and even 16 years old guys involved in the race. I'm not familiar with north american racing series but if true then WTH does a mid 40 guy doing racing with teens?

It's supposed to be a fun race for the fans.  Honestly the kid let his ego cause this.  He should not have taken it personally that Tony raced hard.  He did.  He should not have gotten in the track.  He did.  He should not have tried to get as close to the car as possible.  He did.  Tony made a big mistake, the authorities will decide his fate.

Let's face it, it's because of the possibility of witnessing incidents like this that many people actually go to racetracks.

Anyway, why the hell would this Tony Stewart fellow, take someone out of the race and then decide to kill him in front of thousands of people?

*Dozens.

There's not that many people at these kinds of races.. it's not a NASCAR Sprint Cup Race.. it's a dirt track race that wouldn't make state news if it wasn't for this.

I expect its fanbase to grow exponentially in the coming weeks.
