Netflix change UI in XBox One

Recommended Posts

Got home today and found a new update to Netflix. Once I finish downloaded and install, the UI change to the universal UI that all other platform has. Really upset about it. It would be nice if they would at least change the color and shape to the Xbox One design.

I just tried it and the update made it look much worse visually. The animations are too slow and its harder to get to categories because of that and the big pictures for each show take up 2/3 of the screen.

I think Netflix just want to make the UI the same on all TV size screens which I like when it came out 8 months ago but now its not really good. Its slow, cartoonist, Wii design style. Wish they make it look like an Xbox One app.

Is this update mandated?

Nothing you can do about it...  It's the developer's choice.

Same way about your site that your visitors hate your site layout...

If you hate the way Netflix looks, then feel free to try alternative video app such as Hulu.

You can always leave the feedback to them and you never know that they may change it again for better..  never hurt to try.

The universal app design looks terrible compared to the last version, which was the same design as the Windows app (so I'm guessing Microsoft made it or significantly helped). It'd hardly be the first time Netflix has made a terrible decision like this.

I haven't checked the new design yet, but I really wasn't a fan of the old XO design, it looked good enough, but it listed to few under each category, browsing through the categories took forever and was annoying. browsing by category and sub category was, near impossible.

it looked good but it was a usability nightmare compared to the website or the old 360 UI.

No argument that the appearance wasn't all that great, but it was far more functional than this interface. If you thought browsing took forever in that version, wait until you use this one...

I wouldn't say that usability wise that UI is any worse than the one that was one the Xbox. they're both horrible waste of space using to much space on single items. personally I don't use voice commands so that won't affect me, but usability wise it seems to be the only change that actually has any real negative impact on the usability, I suspect this is because they changed app platform or changed to making the app in house so it'll probably improve.

I however want the old Xbox UI back, the one with all the categories in rows so you simply clicked down to skip to the next category row and clicked sideways to view the movies/series in there. much more content visible at the same time and MUCH more efficient to navigate, and you could actually semi easily get into the episode list of series there which was impossible on the X0 without first starting to play...

I by far prefer the new UI over the old one, it's a lot closer to the older 360 UI and the web UI, still wasting a bit to much space with the top featured items, whereas the old 360 UI have likes 4-6 or so rows visible at a time when you scrolled down.

the navigation and layout of this new UI is definitely better than the old which was a nightmare to navigate, also now when you click n a tv series you don't instantly start watching, but you're asked what do to, including viewing all episodes/seasons, which was terrible to get to in the old one.

That didn't happen in the old version unless you clicked one of the top 3 on the "Resume Playing" section. Everything else brought you to a screen that would let you either watch the first (or next episode if you have started watching it already) episode, rate it, add it to your list, or view more episodes.

Is it the same as PS4? (any multi owners confirm?)

I have no issues with it if it is. They had a nasty bug to patch on PS4 to sort 5.1 audio, but that's the only update we've had.

I haven't been subbed for a while, but at launch I'm pretty sure the two UIs were the same.

I've never been a fan of it though. Constantly have to fight with it to find what you want (N) Browsing is next to useless too.

You know what, this Netflix change annoyed me so much I made my own Plex server and started doing it that way. Much better if you ask me.

The app is atrocious. Netflix, you could of made the tiniest of changes for the X1 specific app to be perfect. For example, when clicking a title in recently watched, take you to the episode selection rather than straight back in. Include stats for the stream when watching a video. With those simple changes it would of been perfect, but no they decided to throw out months of work for a unscalable pile of toss what makes it astronomically hard to discover any content.

oh come one, this new UI while it lacks some features yet, is far better than the old one, especially in how it uses screen estate, and the cross scrolling means you know where you are as well. the other one used way to much screen estate to show very little and you had no idea where you where when scrolling sections and when you'd be back at the start,

besides how does plex help with netflix ?

Personally I hate it, I remember when I first got my X1 and then the 360 app changed to the unified one and I was glad that they developed another UI for the X1. I appreciate the features which were missing on the X1 UI, but they could of saved a ton of work and just added them in the X1 app. I just think browsing content is awful on the new one.

Well, with Plex I can get all the media I need while controlling and pushing content from my phone. Works really well for me. You've got to remember though that all this is opinion.

    • It's amazing that anyone still uses this bloated trash.
    • @Sayan...I have defended you at various points as I hope you know. This headline however is utter trash...shame on you sir!
    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
