Forward Domain Name Without Affecting Email

Question

I have a website hosted with godaddy along with domain names registered there.

I want to forward DOMAIN NAME A (hosted with email setup on godaddy) to DOMAIN NAME B (hosted with create.net and no email setup) without affecting the email of DOMAIN NAME A. How do I do this with godaddy? Everytime I forward it I cant receive any emails.

Any help is appreciated.

The mx record has nothing to do with the A record..if you only touch the A record mail will still flow.

If you screw with your dns hosting then everything will be hosed for about a day.

All I had to do was alter the A record to point to create.net ip address but it broke the emails of domain name A.

Do I need to alter the cname record for mail as that points to @ which in turn would point to create.net right?

Sorry let me rephrase.

Your dns should look like this

Www > ip of domain b

Mail > ip of doimain a mail server

Mx > mail.mydomain.com

Lets assume domain A is 1.1.1.1

Domain B is 2.2.2.2

Mail is also 1.1.1.1

The records would all change for domain A to 2.2.2.2 except for the mx record which should point to a mail server that is not 2.2.2.2, could be 1.1.1.1 or go daddys mail servers or whatever is hosting your mail

So your saying if I just alter the @ in the A record to point to the IP of domain B and leave all the rest alone then the mail will still work but may be interrupted for a few hours?

You should have two/three A records

1 for your www record and maybe also one without pointing to your web site ip

1 for your mail usually mail.domain.com which is for your email

Then make sure your MX points to the mail.domain.com

I only have two A records: '@' which is pointing to the create.net and 'admin' which is pointing to godaddy hosting where the old site is.

The MX record is pointing to the old site where the email is setup.

I have entries under cname such as www which is pointing to @

Sorry if I sound thick. I've not had to alter domain records before.

    • Yeah you are reading different article. Does your article talk about Elon's big dong and has video him naked by any chance? I think the problem is you are commenting on the wrong tab you are actually viewing. Sorry the Telsa you buy is not the same product these robotaxi's will be. WTF? Funny how you didn't even reply to Steven's comment here. Thanks for playing but you are getting all worked up and saying ###### you wouldn't to anyone's face so we are done.
