I've had my Lumia 920 for 2 years now and want to upgrade to a new phone. The 920 has some issues right now so in a whim I decided to pick up a Blu Win HD to see if maybe I didn't need a $600 phone (it was $170 w/ no contract).  Well, although the phone is great for the price I'm looking for something more.

My 2 contenders right now are the HTC One M8 coming to AT&T Nov 7 and the Nokia Lumia 930, which I would have to buy off eBay.

The specs of the HTC are nice, as is the build quality.  I think the camera would be fine for my needs.  I've take some pictures in store on the Verizon version and they seem just fine.  My biggest concern with the HTC is the support.  Will HTC forget some upgrades and/or will they keep updating the HTC Windows software?

With the Lumia I wouldn't have LTE.  I do have WiFi at home and at work and in a lot of other public places but I will be teetering my Surface when I'm on the road to check emails and stuff.  Obviously the camera is top notch and the support would be great.  Also, it's about $100-150 cheaper than the HTC.  The 930 is a little thick and less "sexy" than the HTC.

Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

I went from a 920 - 930 few months ago.  Really like the phone.  Only experience I have had with the One is the Android version and I presume it has same build quality and it does seem very nice.  I like how solid the 930 feels in the hand.  You mention that if you went with the Lumia you would not have LTE, Is that down to your network or does the American version not have LTE?  I only ask as I have LTE but I am in UK so maybe we have a different version.  The phone is fast and so far it has not crashed on me.

When I bought it it had a wireless charger in the box which is nice.  Glance is not available on the 930.

I agree with you that the HTC One looks nice and I also like their designs.  But they seem slow with updating on Android and Windows.  So at least with Nokia/Microsoft you get those updates pretty quick.

In the US the LTE band is different so the fastest speed on the 930 here is HSPA+ (which is actually what I get with the Blue Win HD).  Everything else you mention is exactly what I've found.

Thanks for the votes.  I decided to listen to the crowd and get a Lumia 930 :)  I think I'll be happier with it.

I have the Lumia Icon, I had to throw this thing on the Preview Program to at least get some updates out of it.

I love my phone... But I can't stand Verizon...

Hopefully CES will show some nice Windows Phones with LTE on T-Mob.... Then I will leave VZW for good.

Smart move on the 930 pickup... Your going to love it.

Oh dear, sorry, fixed this...

Don't know any other windows phones...  I'd wait!

Unfortunately I couldn't.  My 920 was dying and the Win HD I bought that doesn't serve my purposes needs to be returned before the 30 days are up.

I did get a OnePlus One for my son.  He loves it.  It's a really nice phone, but too big for me.

Why don't you go android then :p

Also newly branded microsoft phones could be something worth waiting for?

In any case, the 930... the HTC one has a horrible Build to screen ratio size, wasted space IMO.

What, I don't like about the HTC... is that horrible wasted space in the bezel...

lol i don't know what are talking about, i've tried a M8 and it's just fantastic, considering the fact that i'm not a fan of WP8.

A good thing about the 930 is the Nokia logo on it, makes a nice souvenir.

The black bar with htc logo is wasted space.

This last one illustrates perfectly just how much wasted space there is on the HTC m8 ( IMO anyway...). Couldn't find windows phone comparisons, but seeings as the htc m8 android is exactly the same.

This last one is not up to date, but gives you a better idea of what i'm taling about.

yes, it's space that could be used for screen but the phone looks very good (aestheticly), i mean look at this baby:

HTC-One-M8-windows.jpg

Besides, iphones are much worse regarding this but still most people agree that they have good looks.

I know, but i just don't like the design of it; compared with the HTC, it just looks dull and squared..

You misspelled stylish and avant-garde... :P

Is that a real phone or is that just a mock-up?  Looks amazing!

EDIT: nvm... googled it and dang it's a real phone... looks sexy

Damn skippy it is!  I work for the company and they don't give us phones... :(

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
