Is there a software which can share the video over wifi?

Recommended Posts

Hi genius, I want to share my videos on my laptop with my friends over wifi, and I hope we can watch the video independently that means we can free to decide the playing speed and progress. Is there such software? A Free One must be more better! I am looking forward to your answers. Thank you in advance

You really don't need any special software for this - you can just share your folder where the videos are. And they can either copy them to their machine and then play them.. Or just open them and they will play that way, etc.

What wifi do you have, over G you could have problems with HD stuff.

Also a big fan of Plex, works great when mixed with tablets/phones/DVRs/etc, but have to agree with Budman, if the machines in question are just PCs, no need to make it complicated, network share and done.  Can add XBMC if you want a pretty front-end but you can just get them through your file manager too, zero extra software required.  If you got mobile devices in the mix though, definitely look at Plex.. the server is free, the app versions are not but definitely worth the few bucks. (You can also access the server thru a browser.)  Toss a Chromecast into the mix, icing on that video cake.

Plex doesnt care how the video was formatted. It can play on multiple devices. Mkv, mov, wmp, mp3,mp4. No need to find codecs or apps to run the video or audio. I can play on my roku pause it and resume on my pc or phone or tablet.

Another vote for Serviio. I just switched to it when a Windows update broke TVersity. It seems to do the job well, and works with all the video clients I've tried.

IIRC Plex uses its own clients. I do know I havent' successfully gotten it to work with XBMC4XBox, at least.

    • Recycle Bin has been broken for literal YEARS now. The setting to delete files older than 30 days from the bin which is on by default doesn't even work. I have files older than 4 months in it and they are just there still...

    • Isn’t it so sweet Microsoft after so many years of neglect, they admit to these issues in Windows lately? Doesn’t this just make you wanna run out and meet them halfway to give them a warm hug only? Just gives us this warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it. /s
