Just about every time I open Google Chrome, it displays a message that it did not shut down properly. When I have multiple tabs open, sometimes I will close each tab individually. Other times I just close Chrome by clicking in the X in the upper right corner. Regardless of what method I use to exit Chrome, I get this message. What can I do so that this doesn't come up every time?

Try one by one all below.

- Untick following option from Chrome Advanced Settings:

- Go to following URL:

chrome://version/

and copy paste, Command Line here, so we can see you might not be in some field trial experiment with stupid flags turned on.

- If nothing works, Sync your stuff and go to Documents and Settings in Windows OS drive then navigate to "user\appdata\local\google\chrome\userdata\", rename default folder to "default_old" (without quotes) and then start Chrome, where it will create new profile, then sync back your old stuff.

I've unchecked the 'continue running background apps when Chromium is closed' option. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

Here is the command line from Chrome:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end

You didn't have any experimental flags enabled. If problem will be fixed, let us know by commenting here.

Still getting the 'Chrome did not shut down properly' message. If there is a tab that I want to keep open, and I close the lid on the computer, it will make Chrome shut down. If I close every tab and then come back to Chrome later, I get this message.

The only other application I would be running is a game, but I close out of that. What I want to accomplish is to be able to open Chrome without getting a message every single time that it did not shut down properly.

- Open this using RUN:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

or this

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Chrome\User Data\Default

- Open Preferences file from this folder in "Notepad"

- Find "exit_type" using F3 or Ctrl+F

- remane exit_type : "crashed" to exit_type : "normal"

Still getting the message that the browser did not shut down properly, even after making the change above.

- Rename, Default folder to Default_old

- Open Chrome and let it create new profile

I know that renaming the profile to old is the first step in fixing the problem. I've done that before, but it doesn't fix the problem. I'll try it again and see if I can finally get the browser to shut down properly.

I've noticed that if I minimize the browser before closing the lid on the laptop, it usually doesn't give that message. Sometimes though even if the browser is minimized before closing the lid, it will still give that message.

    • Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 PC case is now 33% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 is currently $109.99 on Amazon, down from its original $164.99 list price. That's 33% off and $55 saved on this premium aluminum mid-tower case with a modular design. If you're upgrading your PC case and want something that doesn't force you into a rigid layout, the MasterFrame 600 is worth a look. The case is built around the Cooler Master's FreeForm 2.0 platform, which lets you reconfigure the internal structure according to your hardware. Magnetic side panels allow for straightforward adjustments, and the case supports everything from Mini-ITX to E-ATX motherboards without compromise. There's also generous cooling headroom. Four pre-installed PWM fans handle airflow out of the box. GPU clearance goes up to 410mm, and the case supports radiators up to 420mm with room for three simultaneously. Truth be told, this might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it’s highly functional. The aluminum construction keeps the whole thing lightweight despite its size, and the finish looks noticeably better than the plastic mid-towers competing at this price point. If you want a serious, flexible case that prioritizes function over flashy aesthetics like RGB lighting, the MasterFrame 600 delivers at a reasonable price. • Your daily driver? Weird, seeing that you don't seem to understand how your own browser downloads and installs its updates. What you posted earlier is factually incorrect...
