Can you sing?

The funny thing is, I can sing xmas carols in tune, but regular songs I can't sing at all. Strange isn't it?

Everyone can sing, it's just a question of if they can sing well or not.

To be honest, I don't know. I don't put myself in to a situation where I sing in front of others normally (unless to say, "whats that song that goes <insert lyrics here>?") so I've never received any feedback.

Well, I'll agree with you there, but just because everyone can "sing" doesn't mean they can properly.

When I sing I sound like someone or something that is being tortured and screaming in agony...

But I have a cousin who can sing very well, but he hates doing it publicly... Go figure right...

I used to sing in a choir as the lead singer for some songs when I was a teenager.  I haven't kept in practice since I have gotten older, but I do occasionally hit the same smooth notes and tones I had back then.

 

When you sing, you have to keep your voice in tune just like any other muscle in your body, if you don't you will lose shape and it will take longer to get back up to speed.

No, actually I don't, maybe once every few years I'll sing xmas carols, but only to myself when I'm alone.

Yep, proper singing is all about the the breathing, enunciation, etc not just wailing away in the shower. Although that is fun too! One of the first training exercises my instructor gave me was lying on the floor with a stack of books on my diaphragm/abdomen and I had to breath and raise them a certain height and hold, repeat.

I can sing pretty decently if I try. I've been told I'm a good singer by 1 or 2 people.
