Royalty
I currently use Google Chrome. I see a lot of people still using Firefox. Is there a particular reason (not because I've always used Firefox). I feel like Chrome is faster than Firefox. That's why I use it. But I would switch back to Firefox if there is something that Firefox has but Chrome doesn't have. +Warwagon MVC Posted February 26, 2015 MVC Share Posted February 26, 2015 For one thing, I like my Roboform toolbar across the top, not a drop down button like in chrome. This lets me quickly glance at the roboform toolbar to make sure i'm on the right site. Boo Berry
I use it because it's fast, minimalistic and does everything I want it to. Firefox is getting better though. Max Norris
Firefox (on my hardware) more often than not renders pages faster than Chrome.. pretty much the only time Chrome beats it (again on my hardware) is on benchmark sites, and lately that's getting really close. Extensions are 1000% better than the Chrome variants and usually provides more functionality as well. Performance is almost as fast as Chrome and getting better with each release. Doesn't take up over a gig of memory just for a couple of tabs. I can make the interface look how I want and not locked into what Google says.. no matter how crazy I want it I can do it, but with Chrome you're locked into that one layout, period. I've used Chrome off and on but it just really doesn't give me anything that Firefox can't. I do think their Android version's a bit better than the Android version of Firefox though, but I use Firefox there too for the syncing. Getting really disappointed with Google in general lately as a whole. But that's just me, Chrome's a good browser too. gohpep
It's completely open source. Mozilla's values are in the right place, and they are a non-profit. It's faster than Chrome. It's more lightweight than Chrome. Gecko is awesome. I love it! (I develop for the web). It is very representative of how your site will look like in any modern browser. It conforms to the standards exactly. Addons. Boo Berry
Doesn't take up over a gig of memory just for a couple of tabs. Unless you're using a 64-bit variant like Waterfox. I read that memory usage for it has skyrocketed in the last release. link6155
Firefox is much more customizable than Chrome. Chrome's extension are nothing compared to Firefox's add-ons. Chrome extensions can add a little functionality, but really doesn't change the experience. On the other hand, Firefox add-ons can change the browser completely. I feel like Chrome is becoming the 'new IE' as they're moving away from the idea of an open web to an idea that Google should be in charge of what the web is. I've been using Cyberfox, a 64-bit variant of Firefox as my secondary browser and it's feels snappier than Chrome. Boo Berry
yeah, I preferred waterfox before, but pretty much after 34, I hate it and switched to Firefox Developer Edition. That said, I read Mozilla might be aiming for an official 64-bit stable release with Firefox 38. So who knows, the 64-bit variants may not be needed anymore (other than for 'optimizations' aimed towards faster benchmark scores). I read that memory usage for it has skyrocketed in the last release.Couldn't say, my copy typically hovers around 400-500MB with only a couple tabs, I don't do the gazillion tab thing, so never bothered to stray away from vanilla. Beta 37 is running like a champ here, and especially liking the media extension improvements. Probably the one thing I was missing from Chrome. I did like PCXFirefox when I did fiddle with unofficial builds though, seemed nice with 35.0.1. A Real American!
Who said FireFox was better? - FireFox user (2004-2012) Chrome is More Stable and Faster. Feels Much Snappier than FireFox. You know Windows 7 with start menu, Cool looking XP etc. Now that's not fair to say at all. Even though I use Chrome as my main browser I still use Firefox and Nightly quite a bit and follow the development quite closely. In fact I'd say I follow Firefox's development more closely than I do Chromium/Chrome. Unless 'flexibility' and 'customizable' suddenly became old fashioned, never mind I've had Chrome crash plenty of times on me. Boo Berry
Besides, those benchmarks are pretty moot considering they mean nothing when it comes to real-world usage. Paramore, use any browser you want be it Firefox, Chrome or even Internet Explorer 11. You can't go wrong with any of the three. Anibal P
I bailed on FF because it was a bloated mess slowly becoming IE6, had to force myself to use Chrome till I realized not having all that FF junk and crap addons was a good thing Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1248226-tell-me-why-you-think-firefox-is-better/#findComment-596765338 Share on other sites
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted February 26, 2015 Veteran Share Posted February 26, 2015 I like Firefox over Chrome, because right now Microsoft cares more about standards compliance for IE than Google seemingly does for Chrome (And of course Apple is off in the distance not giving a crap about Safari) Also Firefox has always been more stable for me, and benchmark wise it's been fast enough for quite a while. TDT
I use Firefox on Linux, for some reason it feels faster than Chrome (and it integrates much better with the OS with the theme I'm using). On Windows, I use Waterfox. I don't hate Chrome, but I just find Firefox better right now. Plus, Firefox seems to barely crash compared to Chrome, which crashes quite a lot. Boo Berry
Both are about the same speed for me on my machine (meaning they're fast as lightning). If you're experiencing crashes in Chrome try going to chrome://plugins and disabling the PPAPI version of Flash. Boo Berry
I can honestly say I haven't experienced a crash in either Chrome or Firefox (stable builds of course) in a good long time now. If you're using Firefox for web development, the Firebug extension is highly recommended.
