I figure I should post a new topic; that the old one is getting pretty dusty.

This is a modified version of thecat2000's login screen which can be viewed here:

Permissions are included in the ZIP file.

***Edit: Important: For those of you NOT running a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, you must redownload this file to fix the white blotch problem. Both download sites have been updated.

Looks like the background image refuses to resize properly. This apparently happens when one uses 800x600 screen resolution also.

I have nearly no experience with login screens; I'm not sure what can be done about it short of doing a seperate login for each resolution.

If anyone else who has experience in making these things has a way to fix it, I'd be grateful to hear from you. But I'll look into possible solutions on my own also.

** Edit: Nevermind, scratch that about the resizing issue. I think I know what's causing it. If I'm right, expect a fix out in the next 30 minutes.

*sigh* I guess the fix is a no-go...

Don't think I'll have this sorted out by tonight, but maybe someone can help me out on it? I think somehow, the login is set so that black becomes transparent in the background bitmap. Anyone know how I could possibly change this? Or maybe its not that at all, but any suggestions are welcome at this point.

you have the same gilitch that i had on this login : the password box isnt fully white...

and if you know how to had back : shuttind down windows, loging in etc.. text on the login please tell me, i dont know how

I'll see what I can come up with on that issue... Some people using higher resolutions are still experiencing the white patch problem, so I'll have to fix that first though.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary in that screenshot... Then again, I can't turn up the brightness and contrast on this LCD... Yeah, I know, damn crappy moniter but what can you expect from a laptop? Could you point out the trouble areas?

I'm gonna go see if I can get access to a different moniter.

yeah, cool for the password box if you can manage to fix, btw, theres another one, that we managed to fix with cat on the old one :

pass your cursor slowly on the pic/usename you will see the shadow under the userpicture becoming plain purple...its a prob with png transparency:)

other than that, good work

You happen to remember how you fixed it?

I don't get this. Black, and all colors close to black get rendered as white when the resolution is not 1024x768! But your original login had a pure black background... How can that work? I haven't modified anything but the graphics.

I also had the problems with the different blacks in the picture.. but it is very simple to solve....

Just open the .exe with reshack and save the bmp of the background to ur disk.. open it with ur favorite painting proggie and edit it the way u want..

Save it as bmp and then go back to reshack and replace the old one with ur edited.. save the hole thing and ur done..

if u r not able to edit the background urself use my version (also a lil bit smoother...)

    • Yes for me, I installed 'old calculator' (Windows 7 calculator) in its place since it is more useful to me. I think paint is the only one I left installed
    • eh I'll wait for the June 2026 MVS ISO downloads which should be coming out next Tuesday June 16 and possibly contain build 8655 instead of 8653
