It is only available for iOS at the moment (an Android version is apparently in the works).

You essentially take on the role of an Overseer and you have to expand your vault, level up its inhabitants, attract other wastelanders to your vault, and send people into the wasteland to scavenge.

It is a well-made game but it seems very pay-to-win. You buy "lunchboxes" which have cards in them that provide you with 'drops' like weapons, caps, outfits, dwellers, etc.

It's not pay to win. Even Todd Howard at the Bethesda E3 said you can play it without paying money for those lunchboxes. I'm doing pretty well and haven't spent a dime on them. If you want to go faster, sure you can spend money on those lunchboxes.

Seemed pretty slow to me. It's not impossible to play without paying, but it seems it's skewed that way.

Well, most mobile games with in app purchases can be. It all depends on patience though. My son and I have been playing since release night without spending anything and doing pretty good. I am thinking about starting over though since some of these tool tips came later than they should have. One such one was the one that talked about putting in same rooms next to each other that would merge the two together. Really don't want to sell/rebuild what i have.

How is it managing everyone? I tried "This War of Mine" and couldn't manage three people. Then again, that kind of game's not my usual forte... I preordered Fallout 4's Pip-boy edition straight away, though. I might get "Fallout Shelter" when it comes to Android, but truth be told, I probably wouldn't have given it a second glance if it wasn't by Bethesda.

Seems like Bethesda don't walk the talk. Where Fallout's motto is "Prepare for the Future," and they use iPhone... LOL, of course they develop there first. That's where the IAP revenue is. Follow the money, just makes more sense. No blame there. Also, I think per Apple's rules, they have to develop for the oldest iOS device to support the latest iOS, so, iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, I think? Either way, it's far fewer screen sizes, DPIs, and spec ranges than all of Android, even all of Android from the past couple years. But I've heard some 4S and even 5 users, and iPad 2 users, say the game is unplayable. Kinda curious about that. I have two iPhone friends and they both have the 4S.

I just past 60 dwellers. I am keeping all the female dwellers preggers to boost my count. I want to make it to 100 dwellers and build myself a Nuka Cola plant.

I will say that it seems that when you get to 60, 70, and 80 dwellers you just get better versions of the power plant, diner, water plant respectively.

Not just 2. I put a 3 work rooms (same room) next to the vault door so there are 6 guys, and leave the vault door empty. Raiders will skip through the door and enter the room with the 6 guys all armed with whatever best weapons I have.

Usually less than a quarter health is gone to take care of the raiders. They'll all be back to full health at the next heat.

They don't even need to be maxed out. Just give them the best weapons.

Anyone still playing?

I'm still playing. I only really get time on the bus back home each evening, but that means I've been able to spread the gameplay out. Also, they've released some updates that include different features (pets, new rooms...) which has been interesting to check out.

    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
