Lightweight Hackintosh

Recommended Posts

Firstly before some wannabe mod pipes up - I understand the legalities of this.  I know the difference between applicable law and an EULA.

So on to the thread.  I have a rock-steady main machine (Windows) but also want to tinker with a Mac.  It makes sense to head towards Yosemite, and so am looking for a nice easy OSX86 machine, as lightweight as possible yet still powerful enough to be worthwhile.  From all that I have read, Yosemite is the easiest OSX to hackintosh, and hardware has become a lot more supportive too.

I wonder if a laptop would be my best bet here, or maybe a mini-PC.  Either way, open to suggestions.  The Brix on TonyMac look about right, but it seems latest updates have caused issue.

Thanks :)

#1 second hand mac could work, #2 building a hackintosh, go with gigabyte motherboards seem to work alot better. Have built them in the past and once you get it working, an update can cause issues. If you want WIFI i recommend buying a apple miniPCIe wifi card and getting an adaptor to PCI. Try and make the hackintosh native as possablie. But i would really recommend a second hand macbook pro, upgrade to SSD. Just make sure it support Yosemite.

Look into the Intel NUCs. I've heard they run OS X pretty well.

But the price is similar to a MacMini. When you put in the effort of actually trying to get it installed as well I'd just get a MacMini. You could get an older version so you can upgrade the memory is hdd as well.
